The Scottie wrestlers wrapped up their 2017-2018 season with a super showing at the state tournament in Billings Feb. 9 and 10. Following a few "rebuilding" years, Glasgow entered this year's tournament with 12 state qualifiers and finished with six of those wrestlers earning individual places. The team finished third overall with 120.5 points, bringing home the 30th state trophy in school history. Glasgow's 2018 wrestling squad is on its way to the state tournament in Billings, and they plan on returning with hardware. Head coach Jory Casterline is pleased with the Scotties' performance at the divisional tournament in Baker Feb. 3, where they captured the team title and crowned two individual champs. The GHS gym was packed with people Jan. 27 as the Glasgow Wrestling Club hosted more than 400 area wrestlers. With passion and determination, the Highlanders battled tough competitors all day. For their efforts, they claimed the overall team title, and crowned 14 individual champions. In what was their best game of the season so far, the Scotties faced the Mavericks in a non-conference game on Jan. 20, and finished with a 79-75 win in double overtime. It was Glasgow's annual superhero night, and the Scotties earned the win with super plays and heroic effort. The Mavericks were up 54-51 with just seconds remaining in the game. Alex Fransen, a senior at Glasgow High School, has committed to play football for the Dickinson Blue Hawks. During his football career at GHS, Fransen has been recognized as an outstanding athlete time and time again. Those awards include the Steven Jimison Most Inspirational Player, the Norm Thompson Award for Homecoming MVP and the Dale Vegge Senior MVP Award. The Scottie boys earned a good win vs. Malta on Jan. 12, but fell just short of besting Wolf Point the following night. Junior Cade Myrick came to play, and scored double digits in both contests - 21 points vs. Malta and 16 points vs. Wolf Point. The Lady Scotties couldn't muster up enough offense to defeat the M-Ettes in a Jan. 12 conference game, losing to Malta at home 57-36. The M-Ettes came east to Glasgow without a single win on the season, and went back home with the one win they wanted to get.
