Seven young men from Hinsdale made up nearly one-third of the Scottie football roster this past season. That being said, you could assume that as a group they were key players for the Scotties. You could also say, arguably, they were the core players of the team. As a group, the boys are fairly unassuming and come across as honest, respectful and attentive. They also seem to have a good grip on reality and display a notable level of humility. Of the seven, four are 16 year-old sophomores: The...
The Lady Scottie volleyball team was in Cut Bank Nov. 1 and 2 for the Northern B Divisional Tournament. Their chase for hardware and a place in the state tournament came to an end Friday afternoon when they suffered a season-ending loss to Shelby in three sets. Reflecting on the season, head coach Somer Hoerster said, "Overall we had a pretty great season. Entering this year, we only had three returning players that had any varsity experience, so I knew what we maybe had in age, we lacked in...
Following a clutch performance at the District 3C tournament on Oct. 26, the Lady Mavericks made their way to the divisional tournament held in Sidney, Nov. 2 and 3. A disappointing loss to Malta ended the District 2B Volleyball Tournament for the Lady Scotties on Oct. 27. According to head coach Somer Hoerster, going into districts, the Scotties spent some time working on their serve receive and were focused on using an attack at every opportunity "We've also been working on a lot of play at the net," she added. " I've been trying to put the girls in tough positions in drills where they have to jump and decide in the air whether to block the ball, swing,...
The 2018 Scottie football season came to a close on Oct. 27, following a loss to the Colstrip Colts. Despite the loss, head coach Pat Barnett described the game as, “Maybe the best game we played all year. We started strong and we finished strong.” The Scotties faced the Colts on Aug. 31, to kick off the regular season and Colstrip dominated that entire game, defeating Glasgow 40-6. There was a marked improvement in the Scottie's performance during Saturday's first-round playoff game however, as they led 16-15 at the half. Barnett att...

Emily Kolstad and Lauren Padden crossed the finish line 27th and 30th, followed by...
With playoffs on the horizon, the Scotties were on the road for their final regular-season game on Oct. 19 as they faced the Malta Mustangs. With home-field advantage for the first playoff game on the line for the winner, there were plenty of reasons to fight for the win. Unfortunately, the Scotties fell short and lost to their long-time rivals, 33-24. "We just started out flat in the first half," explained head coach Pat Barnett. "We couldn't complete any of our mid-to-long drives." The second...
The Glasgow volleyball squad hosted Sidney for Pink Night on Oct. 18. Despite some good, scrappy play from the Scotties, the Lady Eagles came back from an 0-2 deficit to win the match over Glasgow in five sets: 24-26, 17-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8. Junior Keely Fossum led the team in three categories, racking up nine of 40 kills, six of seven blocks and four of 14 aces. Rachelle Glaser, a sophomore setter for the Lady Scotties, recorded 20 of 23 total assists and 15 of 39 digs. On Oct. 20, Glasgow...
The Scottie cross country team finished up their regular season of competition at the Harlem Invitational on Oct. 13. With a clean sweep of the meet for both the boys and girls, it was a nice way to end the season. Although both teams performed well, a change in the venue may have affected their overall performance. The course was originally set to be held in Harlem, but had to be moved to Ft. Belknap due to muddy conditions. Alaina Sallee, a senior on the team, was mildly disappointed in her...
The Scottie gridiron boys waited until the last seconds of their game vs. Baker to make the play of the night. The Oct. 12 contest held in Glasgow was stagnate for the majority of the night, with neither side making any progress on the field. Offensively, the Scotties struggled to score. They came within scoring position a number of times but could not capitalize on the opportunity. "I think senior night nerves had a lot to do with it for us," said senior Tayson Hoerster. "Plus, Baker brought it...
The Lady Scotties are packing in a lot of wins at the end of their season. With wins against Malta and Harlem, they extended their overall record to 8-2 and their conference record to 6-2. The girls traveled to Malta to take on the M-Ettes on Oct. 11. Glasgow defeated their rival in four games: 25-22, 25-20, 12-25, 25-17. "We played a great match in Malta," said head coach Somer Hoerster. "We played really well after having to change our game plan with Rachelle's (Glaser) injury in practice on...
The Glasgow cross country team pulled double duty this past week with the Capital City 7 of 7 meet in Helena on Oct. 4 and the Miles City Invitational on Oct. 6. Although most of the Scottie runners enjoy the 7 of 7 meet in Helena because it is an entirely different format than other meets, they also acknowledge that it is a difficult course. Essentially seven boys and seven girls race against each other and earn points for their team based on their finishing positions. Colton Pewitt, who compet...

The Scotties picked up another conference win in Wolf Point on Oct. 5, and improved their overall record to 4-2. Going into the game, the Scotties' head coach Pat Barnett, wasn't really familiar with how the Wolves were playing this season. After the match-up on Friday, he noted that they are probably the best team Wolf Point has had in a while. "They were a disciplined team," he recalled. Although Glasgow defeated the Wolves 36-7, it was a long first half, according to Barnett. "We scored...

Glasgow 20, Cut Bank 8 With their Homecoming win on the gridiron against Cut Bank on Sept. 28, the Scotties secured a spot in the playoffs. "That was our goal," said head coach Pat Barnett of the milestone. "Now we have to make another goal. If we can get into the playoffs as the second seed, we can have another game on our home field. That's what we want." To get there, Glasgow will have to get past Wolf Point this weekend and then Malta on Oct. 19. Although Wolf Point hasn't been making...
Glasgow continues to dominate the cross country circuit, and the team only seems to be gaining ground. The Scotties ran in Frazer on Sept. 27 and at their Homecoming meet in Fort Peck on Sept. 29. The boys were able to claim first place at both events while the girls won in Frazer, but fell to Williston in Fort Peck. The course in Frazer definitely has its challenges for the runners, but is a fan favorite. From the spectator's vantage point, a substantial stretch of the Missouri River is the...
There's no love lost between Wolf Point and Glasgow on the volleyball court. After the Scotties were stripped of their district title last season for a rules infraction, the dynamics between the teams definitely shifted and when they met on the court, the atmosphere was charged. Glasgow hosted Wolf Point in Homecoming action on Sept. 27, and played with determination to a lively crowd. The Lady Scotties fought hard in their battle, but were unable to defeat the experienced Wolf Point squad and...
The Glasgow Scotties hosted the 0-3 Conrad Cowboys Sept. 21, playing to a sizable hometown crowd. Those that left early missed the best part: a Scottie win in the last seconds of the contest. The game was full of twists and turns, including four interceptions and countless penalties, most of which were to Glasgow's benefit. While the scoreboard remained dark for the first half of the game, the second half proved to be different. In the third quarter, Conrad scored back-to-back touchdowns with an... Full story

After losing their first set in Sidney, the Lady Scotties fought their way back to win the next three and to take the overall win (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20). In Dickinson on Friday, the girls played some less inspired volleyball according to head coach Somer Hoerster. "We played very tentative and had a lot of errors," she noted. Glasgow... Full story
The Scottie cross country squad traveled to Havre for their annual invitational on Sept. 22, which is held on the campus of MSU-Northern. There wasn't a whole lot of improvement of individual times at the meet, but head coach Rod Karst isn't concerned about that. "Most of them are still competing for positions right now," he said. "I'd like to see more consistency." For the boys team, it was a battle for first and second, with nine of the top 10 finishers coming from either Glasgow or... Full story
