The Scottie cross country team finished up their regular season of competition at the Harlem Invitational on Oct. 13. With a clean sweep of the meet for both the boys and girls, it was a nice way to end the season. Although both teams performed well, a change in the venue may have affected their overall performance. The Glasgow cross country team pulled double duty this past week with the Capital City 7 of 7 meet in Helena on Oct. 4 and the Miles City Invitational on Oct. 6. Although most of the Scottie runners enjoy the 7 of 7 meet in Helena because it is an entirely different format than other meets, they also acknowledge that it is a difficult course. The Scottie volleyball team traveled to Scobey on Oct. 5 and defeated the Lady Spartans after five full sets, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 12-25, and 15-12. The following day, on Oct. 6, Glasgow hosted the Poplar Lady Indians and made quick work of their opponent, winning the match in three sets, 25-15, 25-3, and 25-19. Registration for Learn to Skate 2018-2019 with Hi Line Skating will be Sunday, Oct. 14, from 3:30-5 p.m., at the Valley Event Center. Children who need to rent skates should attend so that the proper skate size may be determined. Classes for kindergarten through grade 12 are held on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15 p.m. or Saturdays from 8-9 a.m. Cost is $50 for lessons and $15 for skate rental. The Glasgow Scotties hosted the 0-3 Conrad Cowboys Sept. 21, playing to a sizable hometown crowd. Those that left early missed the best part: a Scottie win in the last seconds of the contest. The GHS volleyball team was on the road twice last week with contests in Sidney, Sept. 18, and a two-day tournament in Dickinson, N.D., Sept. 21 and 22. The Scotties had a command performance at the Culbertson Invitational held Sept. 15. Both of the boys' and girls' teams battled through the chilly weather to claim the top spot on the podium at the end of the day. Lustre handed North Country their second consecutive loss in volleyball action in Whitewater on Sept. 15. With three seniors, five juniors and one sophomore on their varsity roster, the Lady Lions bring plenty of experience to the game. The Scotties were on the road Sept. 14 to face the the Fairfield Eagles, a perennial powerhouse in the Northern B. With a fairly short roster of players and the absence of a few solid players for the game, the Scotties were unable to stop the Eagles' offense and were defeated 43-0, although Glasgow was able to finish the night with 88 yards rushing. The event was held at the golf course just south of town and featured teams from northcentral and northeastern Montana.
