Well into the spring sports season, Glasgow hosted its first track meet on April 16, with 23 teams attending. Although the meet is essentially meant to provide an extra opportunity for athletes to qualify for post-season events, this season's event was the first time most of those attending were able to compete at all. Glasgow is being represented by two separate teams at the 2018 Montana USBC Youth Bowling Championship Tournament in Billings. The first two days of competition were April 14 – 15, and the tournament will continue the next two weekends: April 21 - 22, and April 28 - 29. Just two years after making history by launching a wrestling program, the Frazer School District has been forced to cut wrestling from their athletic programs. Jacob Turcotte, head coach for the now-defunct team, explained that the program was cut due to budget constraints and Title IX issues. A Montana FWP Bowhunter Education course date has been set for the Glasgow area. There will be a regular youth classroom course starting on Wednesday, May 2, and an adult online “field day” course on Sunday, May 6. Montana FWP and participating land owners will open some Block Management Areas (BMAs) for spring turkey hunting along the Milk River and one area south of Zortman. The Glasgow Wrestling Club brought their season to a close with their performance at the Montana Open in Billings March 25 and 26. With just under 2,000 wrestlers representing seven different states in the region, the Highlanders were able to face off against some great competition and brought home hardware from the weekend. The Northeast Montana Relay For Life (RFL) had their 2018 kickoff event March 23, at the Valley Event Center with the Skate For A Cure event. About 30 players participated in the hockey game and an estimated 100 people attended. A 50/50 drawing was held with the winner donating the funds back to the RFL. The Glasgow Highlanders sent a record 51 competitors to the State AAU Tournament in Great Falls March 9-11. They joined nearly 1,300 other young grapplers and 87 other teams at the event and turned heads with the depth of talent coming out of Glasgow. The Highlanders proved a force to be reckoned with as they produced two state champions, six runners-up, and 23 total placers at the tournament. The 20th Annual Jeff Jurgens Memorial Basketball Tournament kicks off in Glasgow this weekend, beginning on Friday, March 16 and going through Sunday, March 18. The tournament, which is geared towards boys and girls fourth grade through 10th grade, boasts nearly 85 teams this year.
