  • Frazer Cuts Wrestling Program

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Apr 11, 2018

Just two years after making history by launching a wrestling program, the Frazer School District has been forced to cut wrestling from their athletic programs. Jacob Turcotte, head coach for the now-defunct team, explained that the program was cut due to budget constraints and Title IX issues. Title IX mandates that each school district provide gender equality in sports. There must be an equal number of sports offered for girls and boys in order for schools to be in compliance. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary actions by the... Full story

  • FWP Offering Incentives

    Marc Kloker - FWP, For the Courier|Apr 11, 2018

The cold, snowy, and lingering winter we’ve had across the state has many citizens concerned about game birds such as pheasants, grouse, and partridge. Although these species are well adapted to make it through even tough winters, there is something landowners can do to help birds next winter- plant a food plot. Montana FWP has two options to help landowners establish food plots for game birds: standing grain plots and new diverse seed mixes. Standing grain plots: For standing grain plots, FWP will pay landowners $150 per acre to help offset t... Full story

  • Spring Sports Start Slow

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Apr 4, 2018

Once again, Northeast Montana's unpredictable, yet typical, weather has slowed the start of the spring sports season. Severe weather and heavy snowfall has been a factor in the postponement and cancellation of several spring events. Shelby's golf invitational scheduled for March 23 and the Scottie Softball Red and White Game scheduled for March 27 were both cancelled due to inclement weather. Glasgow's popular invitational track meet was originally scheduled for March 29, but had to be... Full story

  • Let's All Be Adults

    Georgie Kulczyk, Soapbox Soliloquy|Mar 14, 2018

I believe that student involvement in high school sports is one of the surest ways for young adults to learn many life lessons. Unfortunately, not all of those life lessons are positive. Each season, without fail, there seems to be a controversy spurred on by the behavior of a parent, coach, referee, player, fan, or even school administration. Sometimes there are multiple lessons to be learned. This year, the Lady Scotties had a disappointing basketball season. It wasn't the first time and it won't be the last. A person can call it growing... Full story

  • Why Not Wrestling?

    Sharon Meredith, For the Courier|Mar 14, 2018

I would like to thank Coach Ryan for all of the kind words he shared in his article about my family last week. I would also like to thank all of the coaching staff of the Glasgow Wrestling Club for everything they do for each and every one of the team members and by extension – their families. I would like to address one particular question now. What can wrestling do for you? This is a small list of things I see in the boys since they started wrestling: Determination; Passion; Teamwork; Pride; Accountability; Honor; Humility; S... Full story

  • Support, Don't Criticize

Ruth Ann Hutcheson, For the Courier|Mar 14, 2018

Hey all you Scottie Fans, don’t you think it’s time that we start supporting our student athletes and coaches instead of criticizing their every move? There is way too much negativity in high school athletics. The only good that comes from being negative is getting the athletes to fight amongst each other and to not support one another or the coaching staff. Being negative only hurts the athletes. I believe that we forget these are high school kids playing high school sports. Do I need to remind everyone that the athletics offered at Gla... Full story
