The Scottie wrestlers clinched a second-place team trophy at the State Wrestling Tournament this past weekend, representing Glasgow with remarkable individual performances. The tournament, held at the Metra Park in Billings Feb. 8 and 9, hosted teams from AA to C classes and packed the venue with coaches, competitors and fans. The Glasgow U19 Ice Dawgs faced two devastating losses this past weekend at the Valley Event Center. On Feb. 1, they faced off against Sidney on home ice but couldn't fend off the visiting team. Sidney outshot Glasgow 55 to seven. Glasgow goalie Kassie Moore turned away 44 shots in the game, while Cassadee Olson recorded the shut out for the Richland Rangers. The Glasgow Ice Dawgs bantam team went 2-1-1, playing two games in Miles City on Feb. 2, and two on home ice Feb. 3. In the first game on Saturday, Miles City surged to a 3-0 lead early in the second. Glasgow rallied on three answering goals before Miles City clinched the win with 2:06 left in the game. The Scottie wrestlers are peaking at the right time. Heading into the state meet after an exceptional divisional showing, the potential for individual hardware is high, if not a certainty. The Glasgow Bantam Ice Dawgs traveled to Glacier to take on the Avalanche and were buried, not under snow, but under penalty minutes. Saturday, the Dawgs managed to close out the final period with a tie, 4-4, despite having racked up a staggering 77 penalty minutes, far outpacing the Glacier’s measly six minutes of shame. The Glasgow Scottie wrestlers spent last weekend, Jan. 25 and 26, in Malta taking second in the tournament beating out the Mustangs, which placed third and coming in behind the Class A ranked team Havre at Saturday's match-ups. It was worth the price of admission. On Jan. 11, the Lady Scotties brought the fans to their feet, and a losing streak to an end, when they defeated the Malta M-Ettes for the first time in 15 years.
