  • Squirts Host Rough Season Opener

    Gwendolyne Honrud, The Courier|Nov 13, 2019

Don't judge the Glasgow Ice Dawgs Squirts team on their opening weekend performance. After all, they played more games their opening weekend than they'd had practices. Going in to the opening weekend at home, Nov. 1 through 3, the Squirts had only been on the ice three times prior to their four-game weekend. And, well, it showed. Head coach Landon Holte told the Courier, "Tough weekend. We only had three practices before these games!" Assistant Coach Austin Svingen echoed the sentiment, "It was...

The Glasgow Scotties’ hopes for making a state championship appearance were dashed in Columbus Nov. 2 when Columbus took the victory 28-24. Even though it wasn’t the outcome they were hoping, the Scottie seniors still took their final walk on Columbus’ turf. Turnovers, combined with Columbus converting on those mistakes, seemed to be the undoing of the Scotties. After a first half of defensive domination, Glasgow could not claw their way back to controlling the game in the second half. Scottie mistakes, including two interceptions in the first...

    A.J. Etherington, The Courier|Oct 30, 2019

The scene in Great Falls was bleak the morning of Oct. 26. Gray overcast hung over the plains, a cold wind blew from the Rockies to the West and a blanket of snow had tucked the ground in before winter sets in for the season. It was in that scene that the Scottie harriers took on the rest of the state during the Montana State Cross Country Meet. "We were definitely not ready for that," exclaimed Scottie sophomore and All-State finisher Iris McKean discussing the weather conditions and snow. "We...

That work was on full display as the Scotties hit the grid iron with grit and determination. Glasgow lit up the scoreboard early in the first quarter as Alec Boland and Jesse Lee marched the ball down the field. Boland carried it across the goal line, which was...

With the rush of an undefeated season, the home crowd making noise and the girls playing their hearts out, nothing could match up against the Wildcats as they beat the home team in five matches, 25-12, 22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 10-15. This was the first game the Scotties have had to battle it out in five matches all season....

    Michelle Bigelbach, The Courier|Oct 16, 2019

The Lady Scotties showed their endurance, hard work and strength this past week, playing three matches in a five-day time frame. On Tuesday, Oct. 8, they traveled to Fairview to take on the Warriors. This game was a pick-up to the schedule after Scobey cancelled the scheduled meet that was to be held on Oct. 24 due to over-scheduling. Coming into the match, the Warriors were coming off a nine and zero record and were dedicated to keeping that undefeated record. However, the Scotties had the same...

    Gwendolyne Honrud, The Courier|Oct 16, 2019

Coming off a tough loss in Colstrip Oct. 4, the Scotties had hoped to regain their footing with a win over the Malta Mustangs for the heralded rivalry week. But when the Red and Blue faced off on Scotty Field Oct. 11, it was Malta walking away with the win. The tough-fought battle in front of the packed stands saw only three touchdowns over the four quarters of play. "It came down to a one-touchdown game," said head coach Patrick Barnett. Two of those belonged to Malta, who takes their record...

  • Scottie Boys and Girls Harriers Take First in Plentywood

    A.J. Etherington, The Courier|Oct 16, 2019

Both the Glasgow Scottie Cross Country Boys and Girls teams claimed first at the Plentywood Invitational on Oct. 12. Cold and wet weather forced the hosts to move the course from its traditional route on the golf course to the surface streets of Plentywood. The short-notice relocation caused a miscalculation in the course’s length, however, and what should have been 3.11 miles ended up being 2.8 miles long. As a result, the times were staggeringly fast, but they would not count for the record. Head Coach Rod Karst did say that the race would c...
