With just over 100 total runners—after some COVID-related cancellations—the Scotties hosted a home cross country meet that left them happy and out of breath. The Glasgow Scottie football team traveled to Baker this past Friday night for a showdown on the Spartans' turf. The difference between the two teams was stark, both in terms of players and style. The Glasgow Scottie Cross Country teams traveled to Havre on Sept. 12 to compete against a variety of northern Montana schools in various classes. The Scotties held their own during both the girls and boys competitions claiming fourth place for both teams. Both teams of Glasgow Scottie Harriers picked up the number one spot at the Poplar Invitational on Sept. 5. The wins were made possible by the fact that the top five runners for the boys all placed in the top 16 with four of the five in the top nine. Montana’s watercraft inspectors intercepted the 27th mussel-fouled vessel for the year. On Aug. 29, vacationers traveling from Michigan to Glacier National Park with a kayak strapped on their van stopped at the Nashua inspection station where inspectors found a zebra mussel attached to the kayak’s hull. The kayak had last been in Michigan’s Lake Cadillac, a known mussel-infested waterbody. Inspectors thoroughly decontaminated the kayak before sending the vacationers on their way. In response to dry, warm weather that could increase the danger of human-caused wildfires, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks fishing access sites and wildlife management areas will be under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Blaine County beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday morning, Sept. 4. Last season, the Scottie volleyball team saw much success. They ended their season with an impressive 18-3 record, punched their ticket to State, the first time in nine years, were crowned District 2B champions and achieved second place at the Class B Northern Divisional Tournament. The Glasgow Reds traveled to Billings for the Eastern A District American Legion Baseball Tournament, held July 30 through Aug 2. The eleventh annual Mow ‘Em Short golf tournament was held July 25 at Sunnyside Golf and Country Club. A record 32 teams signed up to compete in this year’s event, filling up the available slots a mere days before the tourney. The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team traveled to Lewistown on July 18 and 19 where they claimed second place, behind first-place Lewistown, competing with the western teams of the eastern division. The teams competing were Malta, Chinook, Harlem, Lewistown, Roundup and Glasgow. The Thunder traveled with 26 athletes out of 150 total swimming in the weekend.
