Twenty-three two-person teams took to the links on July 28, to raise funds for scholarships for Scottie golfers. The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team had a busy weekend, swimming their hearts out and laying it out all in the pool at the Eastern Divisionals meet in Scobey this past weekend, July 27 and 28. A total of 31 athletes competed vying for a chance to compete at the State Meet this weekend, Saturday, Aug. 2, and Sunday, Aug. 3, in Sidney, of which 25 were successful. A lot of planning goes into the annual Mow 'Em Short Tournament held on July 27 at Sunnyside Country Club and that planning paid off. The Glasgow-Fort Peck Chapter of Montana Walleye's Unlimited hosted their 19th Annual Women's Fishing Tournament this past weekend July 19 and 20 at Fort Peck Reservoir. In total 53 teams came out to test their angler skills on the waters of Fort Peck and the results were significant. FOR THE COURIER In 2019 we had a total of 73 kids with a total of 131 fish caught. Scheels of Billings provided free tackle boxes filled with tackle for each participant along with a free T-shirt provided by the other sponsors. The Glasgow Thunder Kiwanis Swim Team placed fourth in a pool of 10 teams at the regular season meet in Glendive this past weekend July 20 and 21. In all the Thunder brought along a total of 25 swimmers to the meet capping off the regular season. Next week the team will send 32 swimmers to Scobey for the divisional meet. The Glasgow Reds traveled to Laurel this past weekend in a bid to triumph at the District Tournament and earn a slot at the state baseball tournament. However, a couple of tough losses ended their hopes for the 2019 season. It was early Friday morning, July 12, and 200 boats had filled the waters of the Fort Peck Marina waiting for their wave to get flagged out. The skies were clear and the winds were slight as the cannon sounded the official start of the tournament and a team of volunteers waved the boats on by. The Glasgow Reds traveled to Laurel on July 9 to play a double-header against the Laurel Dodgers. With a home-field advantage, the Dodgers swept the Reds, 5 to 2 in the first game and 19 to 0 in the second game. After taking a week off to celebrate Independence Day, the Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team was back at it in competition in Lewistown this past weekend, July 13 and 14. The Glasgow Reds wrapped up their regular season at the First National Tournament in Williston this past weekend, July 12 through July 14. Their first game on July 12 ended in a tie after six innings against the Bismarck 15’s. Bismarck first got the game going with two runs in the first inning when Bismarck’s Lucas Schell doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring the two runs. The stands were packed for the 40th Annual Hinsdale, Montana Rodeo the evening of July 3. Fair weather, clear skies and the smell of the grill filled the air as rodeo contenders showed off their skills in everything from barrel racing and calf roping to bronc and bull riding. The Glasgow Scottie 14U softball team traveled to Sidney for a pair of games on June 29 and defeated Sidney by 10 runs in each contest. Anglers on Fort Peck Reservoir this summer may be asked a few questions about their fishing experience when they come off the water. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is conducting an angling "creel" survey on the state's largest and most popular warm water fishery to monitor catch rates of popular game fish and determine level of satisfaction with the fishery. The 9th Annual Aaron "Chappy" Chatten Memorial softball tournament was held in Fort Peck on June 15 and 16. Eight teams played 14 games beginning Saturday morning at John Hahn Field.
