In 28 years of playing in Class B, the Glasgow Scotties brought home their 17th District 2B Title in school history on Nov. 2, after playing three games during the two-day tournament on home court. The Lady Scotties came into the tournament as a first seed, which meant they had to wait to find out the results of the Malta vs. Poplar came at 10 a.m. the first day of the tournament on Nov. 1. The M-ettes came away victorious and they hoped to keep that momentum against the Scotties. With the home...
The Glasgow Scotties’ hopes for making a state championship appearance were dashed in Columbus Nov. 2 when Columbus took the victory 28-24. Even though it wasn’t the outcome they were hoping, the Scottie seniors still took their final walk on Columbus’ turf. Turnovers, combined with Columbus converting on those mistakes, seemed to be the undoing of the Scotties. After a first half of defensive domination, Glasgow could not claw their way back to controlling the game in the second half. Scottie mistakes, including two interceptions in the first...
The North Country Mavericks entered the 1-C District Volleyball Tournament in Plentywood as the seventh seed and after hard work and perseverance, they brought home the third place bragging rights and hardware. The Mavericks first played number 10 Bainville, whom they defeated 25-19, 25-11, 25-17. They then defeated number two Fairview, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20. The scene in Great Falls was bleak the morning of Oct. 26. Gray overcast hung over the plains, a cold wind blew from the Rockies to the West and a blanket of snow had tucked the ground in before winter sets in for the season. It was in that scene that the Scottie harriers took on the rest of the state during the Montana State Cross Country Meet. "We were definitely not ready for that," exclaimed Scottie sophomore and All-State finisher Iris McKean discussing the weather conditions and snow. "We...
Coach Patrick Barnett said his team would be preparing as much mentally as physically for their final regular season game against the No. 1 ranked Fairfield Eagles. That work was on full display as the Scotties hit the grid iron with grit and determination. The Scotties kept at the Eagles until the final minute of the game when the visitors took the knee, running out the clock with an eight point lead, giving them the narrowest win margin on their season. Going up against the defending back-to-b...
The Lady Scotties wrapped up their regular season on the road playing against Malta on Oct. 24 and against Wolf Point on Oct 26. The Scotties defeated the M-ettes in three games, 25-9, 25-19, 25-17. This was the second time the girls have played against the M-ettes after first encountering them at the beginning of the season. "We hadn't seen Malta since the first week of the regular season and we were looking forward to it for sure," coach Somer Hoerster tells the Courier. "We had some...
The Glasgow Scottie football team found their footing under the Friday night lights in Wolf Point on Oct. 18. While the offense racked up 58 points, the defense shut out the Wolves in the 80th meeting between the two teams. "They all played a good game, top to bottom," said coach Patrick Barnett of the boys in red and white. Glasgow lit up the scoreboard early in the first quarter as Alec Boland and Jesse Lee marched the ball down the field. Boland carried it across the goal line, which was...
The Scottie boys and girls cross country teams claimed both of the top slots at the Culbertson Invitation Meet on Oct. 19. The Scottie girls led the pack with a total score of 36 points, well ahead of the second-place Scobey Spartans with 114 points and the third-place Plentywood Wildcats with 119 points. In their last home meet before Districts, the Lady Scotties hosted the Plentywood Wildcats on Oct. 16 after recognizing cross country, fall cheer and volleyball senior athletes. With the rush of an undefeated season, the home crowd making noise and the girls playing their hearts out, nothing could match up against the Wildcats as they beat the home team in five matches, 25-12, 22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 10-15. This was the first game the Scotties have had to battle it out in five matches all season....
The Lady Scotties showed their endurance, hard work and strength this past week, playing three matches in a five-day time frame. On Tuesday, Oct. 8, they traveled to Fairview to take on the Warriors. This game was a pick-up to the schedule after Scobey cancelled the scheduled meet that was to be held on Oct. 24 due to over-scheduling. Coming into the match, the Warriors were coming off a nine and zero record and were dedicated to keeping that undefeated record. However, the Scotties had the same...
Coming off a tough loss in Colstrip Oct. 4, the Scotties had hoped to regain their footing with a win over the Malta Mustangs for the heralded rivalry week. But when the Red and Blue faced off on Scotty Field Oct. 11, it was Malta walking away with the win. The tough-fought battle in front of the packed stands saw only three touchdowns over the four quarters of play. "It came down to a one-touchdown game," said head coach Patrick Barnett. Two of those belonged to Malta, who takes their record...
To cap off their Spirit Week, Nashua teachers ChyAnn Clampitt, Noel Beadle, Julia Kirkland, Taylor Hopstad, Sara Wittmayer Wesen, and Kyle Gorman decided to suit up and take on the Nashua volleyball students, Carly Tihista, Tia Dees, Alyssa Morgan, Alexis Murdock, Hadynn Adkins, Devin Fromdahl and Kaitlyn Miller, in a duel at the Pep Assembly on Oct. 10. Initially the students won the match, but a new rule was made at the end of the game by the athletic director Kirkland, that stated who ever...
Both the Glasgow Scottie Cross Country Boys and Girls teams claimed first at the Plentywood Invitational on Oct. 12. Cold and wet weather forced the hosts to move the course from its traditional route on the golf course to the surface streets of Plentywood. The short-notice relocation caused a miscalculation in the course’s length, however, and what should have been 3.11 miles ended up being 2.8 miles long. As a result, the times were staggeringly fast, but they would not count for the record. Head Coach Rod Karst did say that the race would c...
Under the shadow of the Fort Peck Dam and Powerhouses, the Glasgow Scotties Cross Country Team gave their visitors a run for their money. Sunny skies and a stiff wind made the course a great temperature for running but made taking on the wind a challenge at times. However nothing compared to the challenge faced by the runners dusted with prickly pear cactus needles from the course's start in a prairie field, but they didn't crush a single bird egg. Claiming the top team slot was the Lady Scottie...
In an effort to keep their undefeated regular play record, the Lady Scotties traveled to Sidney on Oct. 3 and added another win to their record, defeating Sidney in three matches, 25-16, 25-10, 25-20. This win brings their overall record for the year in regular match play to 6 and a goose egg. The Lady Scotties certainly brought it to the court, only missing one serve the entire night. "I can see our practices are really helping with the pressure serving situations I try to put them in,"...
The Glasgow Scotties traveled down the long road to Colstrip Oct. 4 hoping to continue their march toward an undefeated season. The Colstrip Colts had other aims, looking to notch their second win of the year. The back-and-forth game ended in an upset as the Colts took the win and ended the Scotties' hopes for an undefeated season. "It wasn't the best-played game," lamented coach Patrick Barnett, though he did not sound to put off while talking to the Courier Oct. 6. "A new week starts right...

The Glasgow Scotties continued their march through the conference with a decisive victory over the Wildcats in Harlem this past weekend. The Scotties dominated the Wildcats with a 68-6 victory. While it was the offense that went up on the big board, over and over again, it's true what they say, the best offense is a good defense. Harlem only scored once, logging a touchdown on a kick return in the first quarter. "I can't say our defense got scored against," said coach Patrick Barnett during an...
