The Glasgow Kiwanis “Thunder” Swim Team rolled into Sidney this past weekend to finish off their altered season with a bang. The eleventh annual Mow ‘Em Short golf tournament was held July 25 at Sunnyside Golf and Country Club. A record 32 teams signed up to compete in this year’s event, filling up the available slots a mere days before the tourney. The Glasgow Reds hosted the Havre Northstars on July 15 after traveling to Havre earlier this month to play what was expected to be a doubleheader game however turned into a one nine inning game due to weather. The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team traveled to Lewistown on July 18 and 19 where they claimed second place, behind first-place Lewistown, competing with the western teams of the eastern division. The teams competing were Malta, Chinook, Harlem, Lewistown, Roundup and Glasgow. The Thunder traveled with 26 athletes out of 150 total swimming in the weekend. They traveled to Havre on July 7, for what was supposed to be a double-header against the Northstars however Mother Nature reduced the match up to one longer-than-normal game. In 2020 we had a total of 60 kids with a total of 154 fish caught. Each participant received a free T-shirt provided by the sponsors. The Glasgow Thunder stayed home this past weekend, but did not have to host the latest West of the East meet. That privilege fell to Harlem whose pool is out of commission for the time being, so their swim team has been hitting the road this season. For over 50 years, softball teams from across the region have traveled to Fort Peck for the Annual John Hahn Memorial Softball Tournament. The novel coronavirus was not about to change tradition.
