    Marc Kloker, FWP - For the Courier|Nov 15, 2017

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks fisheries crews began collecting adult Chinook salmon the first week of October this year in hopes of collecting a large number of eggs. Throughout October, FWP staff collected an estimated 791,000 eggs from nearly 200 female salmon. Although this was down from the record year of 1.4 million in 2016, this was the second most eggs collected since the program began. Successfully hatched eggs will be raised to fingerlings and released back into the reservoir in... Full story

Mule deer harvest has been high compared to previous years, and most big game species and upland birds have been slightly down. • The End of the Road

    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Nov 8, 2017

The volleyball season has come to an end and brought with it the usual range of conflicting emotions, but the prevailing feeling must actually be one of accomplishment. Even though we said goodbye earlier in the Divisional Tournament than we had hoped, the Glasgow Scotties did so with class and grace after having given their all. We coaches could not be prouder of the girls. Their fight and respect for the game and everyone affiliated with it never faltered. So now we must say goodbye to the... Full story

  • Three Games, Three Wins, Three-Peat: Lady Scotties District Champs!

    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Nov 1, 2017

The GHS Scottie volleyball team are three-peat District Champs! In direct contrast to many of the past teams, this year's group experienced no mid-tournament slump, no early loss forcing them to play with a monkey on their back. Instead, they took care of business in an efficient manner and emerged as champions in as few matches as possible. GHS first matched up with Harlem at 1 p.m. on Oct. 27, and swept the Lady Wildcats in three games: 25-12, 25-10, 25-13. With some of the best passing of... Full story

  • Sweet Success: Scottie Boys Stride to Second Place

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Oct 25, 2017

The Scottie cross country team closed out the 2017 season with heart and hardware. The state meet was held in Helena on Oct. 21, and the Scotties did not disappoint. It was the second time in just a few weeks that Glasgow competed on the same course, and coach Rod Karst felt the team used the experience to their benefit. "Their performance on Saturday was so much stronger than what we showed in Helena two weeks ago," he said. "They learned a lot going to the 7 of 7 meet, and used that to make... Full story

    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Oct 25, 2017

It was a senior night like no other! To start things off on Oct. 19, the C Squad and JV teams both won their matches against Class A Sidney. Then, a packed gymnasium honored the seven volleyball seniors and their families as favorite memories and future dreams were revealed. Hannah Mickelson belted out a beautiful rendition of the national anthem, and finally the whistle blew to start the game. Sidney came out and jumped on top right away while Glasgow searched for some rhythm. Fortunately it... Full story

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Oct 18, 2017

What a great finish to the regular season for the Glasgow volleyball team! With tournament time approaching, a big win over Malta on Oct. 12 gave the team some extra confidence. The Scottie's focus and drive shone through as they rocked it both offensively and defensively. An amazing 67 digs (Ziggy Chamberlain 17) kept alive nearly every ball Malta sent over. Coupled with an impressive 37 team kills (Jesi Kennedy 13), creative setting (Rachelle Glaser 33) and aggressive serving (Baylie Chappell... Full story

  • Scotties Eke Out Homecoming Win Over Poplar

    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Oct 11, 2017

For homecoming on Oct. 7, GHS outlasted a tenacious Poplar team that played with full hearts and sheer energy. While it wasn't the Scotties' most stellar performance, it still counts as a win, so it was a success. But, GHS will need to re-group after the close contest, especially as the district tournament looms large. Several stunning defensive plays livened up the team and the ever-loyal crowd, but GHS was kept off-balance and struggled to really find their rhythm offensively. Still, a win is... Full story
