It was with great delight I recently received a letter via snail-mail from Pat Hallett of Nashua with more details about the late Glenn Davies, who rests in eternal repose at Highland Cemetery in Glasgow, flanked by his brothers in arms. Davies, a 2nd Lieutenant for the Army Air Corps, was killed in action on Feb. 9, 1945 while serving with the 96th Fighter Squadron in the European Theater. But, if Congress passes amnesty for illegal aliens, they will drain our Social Security by giving billions to those who did not earn it. This is wrong. Dear Editor, I am writing you from Cell-Block-C in the Valley County Detention Center. We read your paper every week regardless of where we're originally from. The facility here is very tolerable. Not only because of the air-conditioner in summer and heat in winter, but the people. The staff here treat us like human-beings and not animals. The food is good, too. I am 32-years-old and a mother of one 8-year-old girl who enjoys swim team and swimming for fun. I am looking to raise money to help pay for the Valley County Community Pool. Any amount will help build a new pool. We still need an estimated $1.78 million. We do have a grant in place, but if we do not have the pool completed by 2023, we will lose the grant. Pet ownership. Of all the things which have come a long way in the last few decades, this might be my favorite. As we are suffering through this heat it may help to remember the other extremes. Do you remember the winter of 1949 & 50? I do not know the months, and no, I did not call the weather service, but some remember having two nights in a row of -55 degrees on a home thermometer. I received a message from Saint Marie's Water Manager, Rob Esaias, on Monday, July 12th that he had the water main fixed. A word of warning goes with this if you EVER have a water break. We were told to make sure you do not use your water filters right away and to run the water for awhile. This will clear the lines of silt from the pipes. Speed Limit Sign Needed There is a problem for people in northeast Glasgow between the high school, middle school and church. We have encountered hazards. First, a 15 mph sign on the west end of Angus Street has been removed. On the east side at Cloud Street, there is a sign that says "SLOW." Does this mean 25 mph? On Thursday, June 10, six officers from the Valley County Sheriff's Office completed their cross-deputization training with Chief of Police Jim Summers of the Fort Peck Tribal Law and Justice Office.
