    Having a presence within the community since 1958, the local Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA) group has changed its name to Caring Hands, Inc. However, no changes will be made in how the group gives back to the community nor will the operation of the Glasgow Caring Hands thrift store see any changes.     After months of traveling back and forth, residents of Fort Peck now have a little shorter drive for their post office needs. According to the United States Postal Service (USPS) Manager of Customer Relations John Sandness operations of the Fort Peck Post Office have resumed as of Aug. 1. The Fort Peck Post Office closed in March due to issues with the boiler and asbestos within the building, making it unsafe for not only the postal workers but the community as well.   • Valley County Sheriff's Office Investigating Incident in Fort Peck

    On Sept. 1, at approximately 11:43 p.m., the Valley County Dispatch Center received a report of an explosion and subsequent fire in the area of the Fort Peck Marina. Deputies and the Fort Peck Fire Department were able to quickly get the fire under control and no one was injured in the blast but a camper and boat did sustain damage. While investigating the area, deputies found a camper had been broken into as well as the cause of the blast was a propane tank being thrown onto an active fire pit.     The VALCO Pool Campaign received a $200,000 donation from the Flora A. Coghlan Family Trust, in memory of Tom Coghlan, bringing the total raised to $2,797,920 as of July 31. The Flora A. Coghlan Family Trust donated $50,000 in 2021 and so this brings their total donated to $250,000.     During the Glasgow City Council meeting on Aug. 1, the Council gave final approval for an annual two percent increase in water and sewer rates for city customers through September 2027. The initial increase will see the base rate of residential water go up to $28.71 and the sewer base rate will increase to $45.75.
