The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Sletten Construction will begin preparations to replace two timber bridges on MT Highway 248 (MT 248) in early November 2022, weather permitting. With heavy snow accumulations throughout the region, Montana-Dakota Utilities is encouraging customers to inspect their natural gas meter and furnace vent areas to make sure there is not a buildup of snow and ice. Customers are encouraged to clear the snow and ice away from the meter set and the furnace vent area. BNSF Train Hits Vehicle On Nov. 14, at approximately 08:35 a.m., dispatch received a 911 call stating a BNSF train struck a vehicle at a crossing near mm 546 on US Highway 2. A single vehicle, with one occupant, was struck in the front passenger quarter sending the vehicle into a ravine on the south side of the tracks. The driver was transported to the hospital. Old Man Winter made an appearance over the past week, which reminded all of us what cold and snow is after a mild end to fall-like weather. A new record low was broken for Glasgow Airport on Nov. 10, when it hit -15 degrees Fahrenheit. This broke the previous record low of -13 degrees Fahrenheit that was set in 1911. In the Nov. 8, 2022 Mid-Term Election, a total of 3,278 registered voters made their voices heard, of the total 4,928 registered voters in the county, making this election a 67 percent voter turnout. When looking at the Valley County precinct breakdown, of the 1,062 total voters in Precinct 31, 689 people cast their ballots for a 65 percent turnout, Precinct 33 had a 68 percent turnout, 1,357 votes cast compared to the total registered voters of 2,000, and Precinct 34 has 1,232 votes cost of the total 1,866 voters with a 66 percent turnout....
In 2004, a group of teenagers started a goal of creating a skatepark in order to pursue their passions in the sport. A board was created, and with the assistance of parents and other involved community members, the park was created on the Fairgrounds property. In 2007 a concrete pad had been poured and ramps were installed. As Montana’s food banks deal with record demand in the wake of soaring food costs and other everyday expenses, the Town Pump Charitable Foundation is matching $1 million to help raise $4 million during its annual fundraising campaign for food banks, including Valley County Emergency Food Bank in Glasgow. Over 100 food banks statewide are participating this year in the “Be A Friend in Deed” campaign, which began in 2001. Art Widhalm (pictured) was one of a number of volunteers at the downtown intersections for VFW Buddy Poppy Day on Nov. 4. The funds raised during the day event are put towards the Veterans Relief Fund, which is used to help area veterans. Before the weather turned from fall to winter, a Free Little Library (FLL) was installed on Nov. 4 in front of the entrance of Highland Cemetery in Glasgow due to the generosity of Dick Markle and Glasgow Street Foreman Scott Runningen. The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was signed by President Biden in March 2021. It provided $1.9 trillion in COVID-19 relief funding. Valley County received allocations from several funding sources within ARPA. The first allocation was $1,436,586, provided to Valley County in two halves, in July 2021 and July 2022. The Valley County Commissioners have bene holding weekly Discussion and Decision meetings to gain public input on how to spend the latest American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation funding. Valley County received the latest ARPA allocation of $1,805,269 from the U.S. Treasury, through the Local Assistance (Public Lands Counties) fund in October and a matching amount is scheduled to be allocated again in 2023.
