The Nemont Manor Foundation presented $50,000 in grants on June 11 to 10 organizations that benefit the Valley County community. The grants were awarded from the Valley County Masonic Endowment Fund, which was established at the Montana Community Foundation in 2022. The US Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Peck is seeking any information regarding the recent vandalism that took place at Kiwanis Park. Several structures were spray painted including a cement picnic table and a large playground. The removal of the paint will be both expensive and labor intensive, if it can be removed from these resources. The vandalism was first noticed on June 3. The Valley County Sheriff’s Office and Glasgow Police Department are requesting the assistance from the community on reporting suspicious behavior regarding vandalisms. The Glasgow Police Department has been investigating vandalism cases near the east side of Glasgow by the baseball field. Glasgow/Long Run Fire Department was paged to a structure fire at Shady Rest, in Glasgow, on June 5, at 12:53 p.m. Upon arrival, fire was observed on the exterior of the residence with smoke showing from the eaves. A trooper with Montana Highway Patrol was first on scene and immediately started using a fire extinguisher on the exterior of the residence. Fire crews then began fire suppression. Throughout the month of May, Bank of Glasgow held their 2024 food drive. With a goal of collecting 1,000 pounds of food for the Valley Community Food Bank, the community came together to exceed that goal, by donating 1,048 pounds. The Glasgow School board had a work session on May 28 to review four applicants to fill the Irle School principal position. The position had been held by Ed Sugg since the fall of 2021 however earlier in the school year, he requested a transfer to a teaching position at the Glasgow Middle School starting with the 2024-2025 school year. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 6 game wardens are seeking any information regarding vandalism that took place at the Glasgow Base Ponds FAS north of Glasgow near Saint Marie. Damage occurred by vandals firing both rifle and/or pistol bullets and shotgun pellets at signs and the on-site latrine, resulting in significant expense to replace and/or fix those items.
