Valley County commissioners have been working with tribal authorities to place signs alerting drivers about the sharp turn on Wiota Road where a local teenager lost his life. The commissioners also canvassed the county votes on Monday, Nov. 17. Canvassing the vote wrapped up elections in the county for 2014. The commissioners reported that several cameras were being added around the jail and courthouse. Carlos Gonzales and Levi Overvold spent a little bit of time looking at the entries in the Festival of Trees that took place this weekend. The event helped raise over $5,000 for the Relay for Life this year. This year's People's Choice went the "The Grinch" tree that was sponsored by the Hi Line Home Programs, Inc. It's been roughly over two decades since Glasgow lost its Christmas tree located downtown. The tree used to sit in the middle of the street on 2nd Ave. S and 4th St. S. A manhole was uncovered and a pot the city created to place the tree in helped hold the tree in place. The Tri-Agency Drug Force and the Valley County Sheriff's Office reported that they made a bust after an intense investigation came to a close on Monday, Nov. 10. After a search warrant was conducted at 587 BIA Route 1, the task force located Shon Wilcox, who had approximately 4.5 pounds of pot, methamphetamine, prescription pills and numerous paraphernalia items that were located in a camper, utility trailer and a pickup. The highly charged debate surrounding the Keystone XL Pipeline, which could heavily impact Valley County, found approval and rejection in a week's time. Last week on Friday, Nov. 14, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill of approval for the pipeline, 252 to 161. Rep. Eastern Montana might see a little more representation in the state House. Rep. Austin Knudsen, R, District 34, was selected as speaker of the Montana House on Wednesday, Nov. 12. With Obamacare in full effect some of the kinks have been worked out in the last year on the federal Marketplace site for insurance. When January rolls around consumers will start to see how taxes will be effected by the new healthcare bill that went into effect last year. Glasgow recognized its local veterans in the annual Veterans Day ceremony held at the Civic Center on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Winter advisory warnings and watches went out for Northeast Montana over the past weekend – and they proved to be correct. The National Weather Service in Glasgow forecast accumulations in Valley County ranging from 4 to 6 inches of snow. That prediction came pretty close to what was reported as the snow finally stopped falling Monday morning. The Glasgow High School Educational Trust is honored to announce a donation of $10,000 in memory of Aaron Danne “Chappy” Chatten. A Valley County teen died in a car accident east of Nashua on Saturday. His 11-year-old brother, a passenger, was able to get out, but the 17-year-old was unable to get his seat belt off in time and drowned in an irrigation ditch, investigators said. The victim was identified as Brett Norman of Frazer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Church in Glasgow. Interment will be on the family farm near Lustre. As local voters headed to the polls this year there were some pretty important campaign races to decide on, as well as a few issues, such as continuing to allow late voter registration. Hunters found a terrible surprise on Thursday, Oct. 30. While they were out hunting on a relative's property they thought they had discovered an abandoned vehicle but on closer inspection they found that a body was inside. They made the call to dispatch just after 1 p.m. The Valley County Sheriff's Office confirmed the vehicle was registered to a missing person.
