  • Robert Irwin Dies In Work Accident

    His coworkers described him as very intelligent, dedicated and a hard worker. Tragedy struck Saturday when Robert Lee Irwin, 53, of Glasgow, was killed while doing maintenance on a Fossum Ready Mix truck at the Fossum gravel pit north of the city, investigators said. He was found dead at the scene. Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier described it a job-related accident. Irwin had worked for Fossum for 34 years. The accident is still under investigation.   • Home Lost To Fire Near Nashua

    Dispatch received the call right around 6 p.m. last Thursday. Mike Doney, Celina Brien and their 2-year-old were out celebrating his birthday when they received a call from a neighbor. The family's home was fully engulfed by the time firetrucks pulled up to the scene on Tihista Road, east of Nashua. Doney reported to the firefighters that there were firearms in the home and a propane tank out back. As fire trucks pulled up they moved back from the scene as ammunition started to go off.   • Kentucky Woman, 27, Dies In Wreck

    A fatal traffic accident took place Saturday on Highway 24, near mile marker 35 in McCone County near Fort Peck. Two women were in the vehicle when the driver tried to avoid a deer in the road and lost control of the vehicle, investigators said. The driver was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger, Samantha Conn, 27,of Morehead, Kentucky, was not and she was ejected from the vehicle. Conn was reported dead on the scene.   • The Beginning of Wheeler, Montana

    This photo is of Wheeler, a town that was adjacent to the Fort Peck Dam site, built on a barren hill. It was taken July 30, 1934. The community was named after Sen. Burton K. Wheeler, Montana's senior senator. Wheeler no longer exists, and hardly a trace remains in the area. While this photo just shows the beginnings of the town, it grew much larger in size by the end of the Fort Peck Dam project.... Full story

    The National Weather Service in Glasgow had a busy day last week as warnings were issued for a storm that ended up moving rapidly through Valley County.   • Is There A Winner In Fort Peck Legal Case?

    A hearing was set for Thursday, July 31, but District Judge Blair Jones signed off on a motion for summary judgement, dismissing the plaintiff's claims without prejudice and awarding attorney's fees and costs to Jeffrey Robertson. While the battle might not be fully over, to this point it seems no one really won in this case that has lingered in Fort Peck for years.   • Search Warrant Leads To Arrests

    The Drug Task Force and Valley County Sheriff's Office produced a search warrant for two local residents in Glasgow on Friday, July 25. That searched turned up several charges and arrests. Sheriff Glen Meier said he couldn't elaborate on details that led officers to the residence, but he said that the investigation would continue.     Valley County government is working to fix a problem regarding financial issues said to be discovered in early June and late May. According to county commission meeting minutes for the month of June, billing issues were discovered and brought to the commissioners' attention.     While it’s not a sharp increase from previous years, there has been a noticeable rise in thefts and scams in Valley County and in Glasgow. Gone are the days where you can leave home with the door unlocked, or leave your car unlocked at the grocery store. Deputy Reed Mesman explained that the goal to raise $8,000 for training hasn't been reached yet, but donations have helped.     The Public Service Commission, along with a NorthWestern Engery representative, visited Glasgow a few months ago to discuss the possible purchase of 11 hydroelectric dams from PPL Montana. The $900 million bid to buy the dams would pass on rate increases to 342,000 customers in Montana. Rate increases have been estimated to range from 6 percent to 9 percent.
