The month of August was much wetter than normal. In fact it was the wettest August on record, and the fifth wettest month of all time. This was mainly due to a very slow moving storm system that brought record rainfall to the region from the 21st through the 24th. It was the wettest four-day period in record in Glasgow, as 5.26 inches of rain fell during that time. For the month, 6.72 inches of rain fell, which was 5.48 inches above normal. Valley County isn't a stranger to flooding. The occurrence of flooding is about once every two and a half years according to records at the Glasgow National Weather Service. Usually those floods take place in spring as the snow melts into the rivers and creeks that surround the area. Most of the Glasgow City Council met for a sometimes dreaded annual event. While budget meetings might not start with a bang, they could end with a sigh of frustration this year. It was an eventful Friday for the Valley County Sheriff's Office as officers assisted the Tri-Agency Drug Task Force on Aug. 22. The team acted on a search warrant in the cabin area of Fort Peck Lake at 43 Mallard Drive. The warrant allowed law enforcement to find a marijuana growing operation. The Sheriff's Office reported that an estimated street value of $80,000 of marijuana was found at the location. Suspect names were not immediately released and charges were pending. The Glasgow High School Booster Club has been working on the process to get Scottie license plates available. Our summer reading program drew to a close with a celebration of everyone's accomplishments. There was drink, cake, snacks and prizes. Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. filed a natural gas rate increase request with the Montana Public Service Commission Friday. An arrest was made on Friday, Aug. 8, after an investigation led to a search warrant. St. Marie resident Antonio Hernandez, 31, was arrested and charged with possession of dangerous drugs – felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia – misdemeanor. The drug was reportedly methamphetamine. Any presence of methamphetamine is a felony charge in the state of Montana. The Havre Police Department has been awarded $179,833.76 from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program for the Tri-Agency Drug Task Force for the 2014-15 grant year. This photo shows Til Hagen to the left and Clyde Flint holding some pretty tall corn in front of the Frazer Hardware store in 1922. The corn stalks were from Sherman McCune's broom corn south of the river. Frazer was a busy town during this time, as it was a place for bootlegging traffic. His coworkers described him as very intelligent, dedicated and a hard worker. Tragedy struck Saturday when Robert Lee Irwin, 53, of Glasgow, was killed while doing maintenance on a Fossum Ready Mix truck at the Fossum gravel pit north of the city, investigators said. He was found dead at the scene. Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier described it a job-related accident. Irwin had worked for Fossum for 34 years. The accident is still under investigation. Dispatch received the call right around 6 p.m. last Thursday. Mike Doney, Celina Brien and their 2-year-old were out celebrating his birthday when they received a call from a neighbor. The family's home was fully engulfed by the time firetrucks pulled up to the scene on Tihista Road, east of Nashua. A fatal traffic accident took place Saturday on Highway 24, near mile marker 35 in McCone County near Fort Peck. Two women were in the vehicle when the driver tried to avoid a deer in the road and lost control of the vehicle, investigators said. The driver was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger, Samantha Conn, 27,of Morehead, Kentucky, was not and she was ejected from the vehicle. Conn was reported dead on the scene.
