The Elks Club and Lodge 1922 was the site for this year's Flathead Cruisers Father's Day car show. 2nd Ave S. was blocked off and 53 classic and new cars lined both sides of the street in front of the Elks. While the show had previously been held in the Dairy Queen parking lot, the Elks proved itself to be an attractive location. Dick Cotton said the venue change was an improvement as it got the show away from the highway traffic, and the new Mexican restaurant offered families a close place to...
There was a packed house at the June 17 meeting of the county commissioners. Members of the Valley County Fair Board and individuals from the public spoke for and against a recommendation to the commission that Glasgow resident Gene Hartsock be removed from the board for a list of reasons relating to alleged use of foul language, threatening behavior, and other largely unsubstantiated accusations. All attendees who spoke on the subject allowed that Hartsock has done excellent work for the county and other peripherally related civic...

A quartet of area elders headed out early June 12 from Happy Flats in Hinsdale on a mission of general education for the Courier's newest managing editor. The lesson was a profoundly edifying one. The group included Sherman Lacock (79), John Mogan (88), and one of Hinsdale's...
Milk River Motorsports hosted their annual Spring Demo Derby on June 13, at the Glasgow Fairgrounds. While the number of participants was down from last year (29 to 10), the excitement was not. Rocky Thompson of Glasgow commented on the low number, "For only being a 10-car field, the drivers put on a great show for MRM and the Glasgow fans. After a tough final heat, Winston Anderson from Chinook edged out Fred Potter and Brad Olson from Glasgow. If these 10 cars can put on this kind of show, I...

Questions and comments from the public at the June 15 City Council meeting put a temporary halt to the passage of Ordinance No. 952 regarding limits on the number of cats and dogs residents can own and maintain within city limits. The proposed number is three animals in any combination, but after objections from concerned citizens, the ordinance was tabled for further consideration. Mayor Erickson took the lead in stating that while the pet owners and shelter operators present at the meeting were more than likely responsible animal caregivers,...

As is in any Montana town that allows easy access to firearms and open carry, it is still against the law to discharge firearms within the city limits. Not only is it a no-brainer legally, it is very dangerous and with the warmer weather, more people are outside and can easily become an accidental statistic for carelessness. The person, supposedly a teenager, so his name cannot be revealed, was pointed out discharging a firearm in our city limits and it was reported that they left the firearm unattended, presenting a tempting situation that any...
Chief of Police Bruce Barstad reminds drivers not to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles during our warm season, even with the window slightly open. Temperatures in vehicles rise quickly and can easily lead to heatstroke and/or death for children and animals. At 80-degrees outside, your vehicle’s inside temperature can rise to 120-degrees or higher in an hour, quickly causing health issues for children and pets. If you see a child or pet left unattended in a vehicle with the windows rolled up, call the police. Seasonal temperature c...

The work and preparation of the past few years culminated in a district-wide room and building shuffle for most Glasgow teachers. The process started the last week of school, but will continue as the new Irle Elementary facility is finished and rooms are cleaned and painted at Eastside Middle School for new occupants. High school students who are members of the Key Club, the Glasgow Reds baseball team, and students who plan to go on the school’s next Washington, D.C. trip helped with the move to raise money.
