    Dane Osen, For the Courier|Sep 14, 2016

This week, I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Joe Horn, one of the three candidates running for Valley County Commissioner, to discuss his experience and views on key issues facing the county. His main concern is taxes and if elected he said he wants to do what he can do to lower them. Joe Horn began his law enforcement career working as a deputy sheriff in Lee County, Iowa. While employed there, Horn bought and sold land and subdivided it. After leaving the Lee County Sheriff's... Full story

"Everything walks in through the door here. From mammograms, to broken legs, to brain tumors, I've seen all of those in the six weeks I've been here." • Arm and Hammered

    Dane Osen, For the Courier|Sep 14, 2016

Alley's Palace hosted an open competition Sept. 10 for local arm benders to try their might against each other. In all, the tournament attracted 16 contestants, consisting of four women and 12 men. This was my first time attending such an event. Expecting something more comparable to the 80s Sylvester Stallone movie "Over The Top," I was pleasantly surprised that it was nothing like that at all. Sure, there were guys arm wrestling, but the super-macho guys with testosterone in hyper-drive were... Full story

In a recent press release, Billings-based Health Management Services (HMS) announced that they would be reducing Malta’s Hi-Line Retirement Center (HLRC) from a nursing home to an assisted living center in coming months. HMS also manages Glasgow’s Valley View Home, which has also seen its fair share of recent budgeting woes, staffing concerns and questionable management under their watch. The change in status in Malta will almost certainly involve a reduction in current residents at the facility. In fact, the exodus to other regional fac... Full story

Just before press time, members of Sam’s staff confirmed that they had been informed about the loss of their jobs over the weekend. A sign on the door of the establishment reads “Sam’s Supper Club is officially closed for business. He detailed historic happenings from previous gatherings, including staged robberies, horse races and festivities that carried into the wee small hours. He wasn't the only one with a bit of nostalgia on the brain. Amid the revelers at the well-attended parade alon... Full story

Kevin James and Amanda Sergeant are developing a new store, Vintique 406, in the long vacant building that once housed Johnnie Cafe. The two entrepreneurs are starting something new while still giving a nod to the history of Glasgow's Front Street. The couple's plan plays perfectly into their business model of up-cycled, refinished vintage furniture, home decor and antiques. Along with the recent appearance of Shippwrecked (next to Oasis at 527 5th Street S.), we seem to be experiencing a minor... Full story
