    Chief of Police Bruce Barstad would like to again remind the Glasgow community to make sure their lawns and weedy lots in the city of Glasgow are well kept and mowed. Also, the police department will soon be posting formal notices to cut the grass, or the city will mow it themselves with a charge and a fine.     Valley View nursing home (VVH) is a long-term care facility in Glasgow that provides the region with an invaluable community service. Recently, the facility received a troubling quality assurance review by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS). Specifically, DPHHS found that VVH was responsible for three immediate jeopardy deficiencies, constituting unusually serious infractions.     The latest incarnation of the Milk River Motorsports Demolition Derby saw increases in both attendance and participation on May 28 at the Valley County fairgrounds. Organizers Josh Thompson, Garth Loftsgaard and Rob Brunelle made some date changes and other fine tuning that paid off, with 21 cars entering competition (up from 10 in June, 2015) and more than 700 spectators in the stands.     News of the recent termination of Jon Kolstad's contract as Glasgow High School's head girls basketball coach left unanswered questions. Efforts by interested parties to clarify the termination with school board trustees were initially unsuccessful.     The Pioneer Museum of Valley County recently launched a sizable expansion adding over 5000 square feet to the museum in brand new exhibit space. The new annex seeks to recreate Glasgow's Main Street, circa 1915; a "hot time" in Glasgow's history according to Dave Pippin, former Valley County commissioner and current chair of the Valley County Museum Board.     Glasgow Police Department has had recent complaints of dogs chasing runners, walkers or other pedestrians. The department would like the community to contact them with the address and description of the dog if there is a problem. GPD would also like to remind dog owners to follow leash laws and keep their dogs tied up outside if they are vicious and/or aggressive around people or other dogs. The location will continue to accept scrap metal up to May 13, and other business until May 27, with plans of being completely closed June 1.     Applications are now being accepted for the Lynn Cornwell Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the four Valley County Grazing Districts. It is open to any Valley County High School graduate that is a college junior, senior or above.     After the recent influx of rain and warmer weather, Glasgow Police Department would like to remind everyone to make sure their yards and lots are well kept. City code for “nuisance weeds” calls for any weeds, grass or other vegetation be under eight inches in height. Failure to comply within a reasonable time will result in a notice of violation.     Sheriff Glen Meier spoke with area media on May 10 about the first five years of Valley County's new detention center. According to Meier, the undertaking has been a successful one. In the fiscal year leading up the the jail's completion (2010-11), the county's budget for the detention center exceeded its income by close to $200,000 without adjustments.
