Approximately 25 Vietnam-era veterans were honored with pins at the VFW and American Legion's Memorial Day ceremony May 29. Servicemen with dates of service ranging from Feb. 1961 to May 1975 were eligible for the commemoration. The event, held at the Civic Center, took place in a gymnasium with few empty seats. On June 4, Glasgow area cycling enthusiasts will participate in a global event designed to encourage traveling by bicycle and spending the night at a campground, park, hotel, bed and breakfast, hostel, friend’s house or backyard. A lot of road construction projects across the county are now one step closer to being accomplished after this week’s discussion and decision meeting at the Valley County Commissioners' office. The first project that the commissioners gave the go-ahead on was a bridge over Beaver Creek on Milk River Road, located just west of Hinsdale. The Children’s Museum of Northeast Montana is hosting their annual summer camp program this year throughout the month of June. There will be four different camps, with each camp lasting a week. The City of Glasgow recently announced various projects scheduled to utilize $395,200 in funds earmarked for road improvements. The projects are starting this week with some areas receiving payment overlay and in other areas the road will be removed and replaced. Election Day for the special election for Montana’s at-large congressional district is set for Thursday, May 25. This will be the first election held since the recent change in voting districts in Valley County, where voting districts were aligned with house districts and the number of precincts were reduced to three. Glasgow's Swing Choir did not disappoint at their annual spring concert held May 18, at the Ridge Runners Club. The performance has become quite an attraction, with this year's concert drawing almost 400 people. The performance featured the choir's take on several pop songs that spanned several generations and genres. Last week during their weekly Discussion and Decision Meeting, the Valley County Commissioners had quite a few things on their agenda. The first item of the meeting concerned county employees purchasing tax liens. Montana Warriors On The Water (MWOTW) will be hosting a fishing trip on Fort Peck Lake from July 10-15. With summer nearing and the temperatures rising, people of all ages are again beginning to ride their bicycles. While biking is a healthy mode of transportation, it still poses potential hazards and risks that can be minimized through helmets, being cautious, and using your bike in a safe manner. Thursday, May 11, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program Director Mark Douglass will be in the community room of the Valley County Courthouse from noon to 7 p.m., to answer questions and provide information about CASA and its mission.
