The Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture is kicking off the 2017 fall and winter season with its annual Community Cash program. Community Cash scripts will be available beginning Monday, Oct.16, at First Community Bank in Glasgow and Hinsdale, Valley Bank and Independence Bank. Jay Witkowski, who was convicted of murdering Evelynn Garcia (31) on New Years Eve of 2016, was sentenced Monday by the 17th District Court in Glasgow to 80 years in Prison with the possibility of parole in 20 years. Witkowski had arranged a plea agreement in which he was to receive 70 years for the December 31 murder and ten consecutive years for the use of a dangerous weapon. The decision to auction off the Magruder property was approved to be sold last week by the Valley County Commissioners. The parcel of land, located on the south side of town along MT Highway 42, was utilized as the home to the local farmer’s market. According to Valley County Sheriff Vernon Buerkle, a rollover accident occurred south of Glentana on Sept. 26. The driver, Charles Paul Eastly of Opheim, missed a turn in the early morning fog. He was not seriously injured. The Montana Highway Patrol’s Seth Adams contacted the Courier to confirm toxicology results which indicate that neither speed nor alcohol contributed to a fatal crash near Nashua on July 28 involving local 16-year-old Thomas James Miller. A crash involving a Glasgow Public Schools bus and a pickup was reported west of Glasgow on Hwy 2 on Sept. 19. Both drivers involved were killed. The driver of the truck was Julie Steiger (31) of Troy, Mont., and the school bus driver was Harold James (Jim) Belcher, a 73-year-old Fort Peck resident. With 61 percent of the total number of voters participating, Valley View Home claimed a win in the Sept. 7 election to approve a temporary mill levy to fund the home over the next two years. Valley County Commissioners decided last week to have the Magruder property appraised and to possibly auction off the property. The long time home for the farmer’s market was acquired by the county as tax deed land. The county had offered the land to the city, which declined to take it for unspecified reasons.
