In an amazing landslide write-in victory carrying nearly 60 percent of the total vote, Tom Boyer became Valley County's next sheriff. Total results were write-in 2,270 to Joe Horn's 1,459 with Boyer walking away with a total of 2,243 votes. Valley County Sheriff Vernon Buerkle reported that former Undersheriff and Deputy Luke Strommen has resigned his position at the Sheriff’s Office. According to Sheriff Vernon Buerkle, Valley County deputies and firefighters responded to a report of a suspicious device 20 miles north of Nashua. The suspicious package had been sent in the mail to a local resident on Nov. 5, at roughly 3:47 in the afternoon. The Valley County Sheriff’s Office has reported that the charge of Deliberate Homicide against John Ersness has been dismissed without prejudice by Valley County Justice Court. The request to dismiss was made by Valley County Attorney Dylan Jensen. Truckloads of pipes to be used in the construction of TransCanada's Keystone XL Pipeline have been traveling across Northeast Montana from Glendive to staging areas along the pipelines' future route in northern Phillips and Valley County.
