Montana Law Requires the Minimum Wage to be Adjusted Annually The Montana Department of Labor & Industry reminds Montana businesses and workers that the minimum wage will increase from $10.30 to $10.55 beginning on Jan. 1, 2025. Montana law requires the minimum wage to be adjusted annually for inflation using the August estimates of the Consumer Price Index for Urban Consumers (CPI-U). The Valley County Commissioners held their first of many community meetings on Sept. 27, at the Valley County Courtroom for Glasgow residents and then traveled to Frazer and Lustre on Sept. 30, and then to Hinsdale on Oct. 1. The November Election is rapidly approaching, and absentee ballots are set to be mailed out Oct. 11, in Montana. As a result of the federal holiday, Indigenous Peoples Day, on Oct. 14, absentee ballots are expected to arrive to mailboxes later that week. In Valley County, there are currently 5,007 registered voters. This number is down compared to the last Presidential Election in 2020 when Valley County had 5,136 registered voters. This project was made possible through the support of Two Rivers Economic Growth's Storefront Beautification Grant Program and the Downtown Signage Grant Program, sponsored by Prairie House Gardens. NDHP Trooper Myles Sundby, whose hometown is Glasgow, was recently named the 2023 Trooper of the Year by the North Dakota Motor Carriers Association (NDMCA). Sundby serves as a motor carrier operations trooper and is stationed in Grand Forks. Trooper Sundby graduated from Minot State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. The 61st annual Saco Fun Days Labor Day celebration kicked off the evening of Aug. 30, with a community Potluck put on by Robert Plouffe. Close to 70 people showed up for the annual Friday evening dinner and about 25 assorted dishes were brought in by various community members. On Sept. 19, the remains of three children from the Fort Belknap Indian Community were returned home for burial in tribal lands after more than a century. The remains of Almeda Heavey Hair, Bishop L. Shield and John Bull were repatriated from the Carlisle boarding school cemetery in Pennsylvania. Valley County Sheriff Tom Boyer stated that earlier this month Valley County Sheriff’s Office conducted 33 compliance checks on Valley County businesses that sell alcohol and two violations were reported from those checks. A new billboard advocating for the protection of healthcare access and reproductive rights, including abortion and gender affirming care, has been placed in Glasgow as part of Montanans for Choice’s statewide Reproductive Freedom campaign.
