Despite game opposition from a man making his third appearance in their office, the Valley County commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a rate increase proposed by Valley County Transit, the first since 1997. Harry Ratzky is a low-income senior citizen who objects to the increases that eliminated reduced fares for seniors and children. Harry Ratzky is protesting the decision to raise rates for rides on the Valley County Transit buses. He told the Valley County commissioners on Tuesday that he believes the increase is in violation of the Montana Civil Rights Act and probably the federal Civil Rights Act, because he has protected status as a senior and a person with a low income. The rate increase, announced May 29 in The Courier, is the first since 1997 and is to go into effect July 1. All rides in Glasgow will cost $1. Riders will notice a restructure in pricing starting in July when they ride the Valley County Transit. The Valley County Transit Board this month made the decision to restructure the cost for rides. The rate has remained the same since 1997, and was due for a change, officials said.
