A popular Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) Region 6 program that allows children and their families to check out free fishing rods and tackle is in full swing again this year. The Glasgow City Council met for a brief, post-holiday session in council chambers on Jan. 4. Among the agenda items addressed were the approval of two Dry Prairie Rural Water easments. This week, Valley County Community Foundation Board Chair Ken Oster announced the receipt of a $100,000 gift from former Glasgow residents Jim and Marilyn Parke. Chief of Police Bruce Barstad would like to remind drivers that the speed limit on 3rd Street S, between the Recreation Center and the hospital, is 15mph at all times. The Valley County Planning and Zoning Commission held its first public hearing on work force camps proposed by TransCanada during the Keystone XL Pipeline project. Valley County would house two of the four proposed work camps in Montana, one near Hinsdale, the other between Nashua and Fort Peck. The meeting lasted a little over two hours. Marc Kloker has been appointed as the Region 6 information and education program manager for Montana of Fish, Wildlife & Parks. A free community tennis clinic with a top instructor will be offered by the Glasgow Recreation Department at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Glasgow Civic Center. A memorandum of understanding between Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation allows about 3,700 acres of federal land near Wagner in Phillips County to be specifically designated as being open to the public, FWP announced. When the federal government shutdown ended last Thursday, local federal employees returned to work and tried to catch up after 16 days of furlough.
