William "Bill" Luther Schultz, age 85, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at the Big Sandy nursing home. One hundred fifty-five strong turned out for Glasgow's first annual Wounded Warrior Project Paint Run/Walk on Saturday morning. At press time, the 2015 Northeast Montana Fair is concluding with a finale in the way of Tuesday's Milk River Motorsports Derby. The 1st annual Paint/Run Walk will take place in Glasgow on Saturday, Aug. 8. The registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Glasgow Civic Center and the run/walk begins at 9 a.m. This is a 2.5-mile fun run/walk with proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Milk River Motorsports hosted their annual Spring Demo Derby on June 13, at the Glasgow Fairgrounds. While the number of participants was down from last year (29 to 10), the excitement was not. For the sixteenth year in a row, Northeast Montana was treated to a great show. The Milk River Catfish Classic took place over the weekend in Glasgow, Montana. Fishermen came from near and far to try and climb to the top of the Cat Classic mountain and take home the famed "traveling trophy." A popular Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 6 program that allows children and their families to check out free fishing rods and tackle is in full swing again this year. Just in time for summer fishing, FWP staff is in the process of restocking the 49 (and counting) different location sites across Montana's Hi-Line. Twenty-five vehicles participated in the Sand Drags and Mud Bogs events last weekend held at the Northeast Montana Fairgrounds at Glasgow. A total of $4,190 was paid out in prize money. Not only a local favorite fishing tournament, but Brenner Flaten, who has helped run and organize the event every year for 16 years, says it’s one of the top five fishing events in the nation. The tournament is so popular that Flaten said the tournament for this year was full 358 days before the tournament began. The most glaring number that the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) provided at the March 24 St. Mary Rehabilitation Working Group (SMRWG) meeting in Havre was not the $40 million construction cost for a new diversion structure. It was the fact that the current snow pack in the St. Mary/Milk River system was only at 65 percent. This highlights the importance of a reservoir and conveyance system. This year on Earth Day the health department will have a community stroll – and there has been discussion about a possible community cleanup day in the future to celebrate the day and promote keeping the community clean. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in Glasgow is conducting a pilot project to open Block Management Areas (BMAs) for spring turkey hunting along the Milk River. Up to 9 BMAs could be open for the spring turkey season, beginning April 11, and running through May 17. Most of the properties are located along the Milk River between Hinsdale and Nashua. July • While the flood of 2011 is still a topic of conversation, necessary repair work at Fort Peck Dam is ongoing. Even though several repair projects have been completed, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers continues work on the Fort Peck spillway. Consequently the 2011 discharge caused a lot of erosion. The spillway ran for over four months. A crowd large enough to fill a court room showed up on New Year's Eve to welcome the newcomers and to say goodbye to those going out of Valley County Office. A Glasgow native has been making trips up to the area as a civil engineer with plans to develop some land just outside Glasgow city limits. Travis West made an appearance at the Valley County Commissioners meeting to get subdivision plans accepted on Skylark Road.
