Despite a few issues that threatened to delay the opening, the city pool is open for the summer. A new coat of paint and some maintenance, thanks in large part to volunteer swim team families, will hopefully be enough to get us at least one more summer of swimming. The Glasgow pool is a part of my history and present. I took swimming lessons every year I could. Getting to open swim in the afternoons was a treat on trips into Glasgow. I worked as a lifeguard for several summers many years ago. Last summer, after quitting smoking, I got myself ba...

  • The Local Value of Wilderness

    Andrew McKean, Valley County Voices|Mar 21, 2018

Local input is a hallmark of democracy. Good laws should and do bubble up from neighborhoods, country churches, and bar stools, just as bad ideas are often killed by the folks who have to live with the results. That’s why, if you’re running for public office, it’s a smart idea to say that you’re in support of local decisions. Imagine the alternative: “I’m from the distant government and I’m here to tell you how to live your life.” You probably wouldn’t win many votes. But that alternative is precisely what our lone U.S. Congressman, Greg...

Prior to the cancellation of classes on March 5, the last known school closure in Glasgow was in February of 1978.... Full story

Generally, it takes about five to ten days to evacuate ice out from the Billings area all the way through the Lower Yellowstone River. Things will take a little longer in the Milk and Poplar River basins as temperatures are not as warm, but it won’t be too far behind the other two. Two-thirds of Montana’s ice ja... Full story
