  • Yesterday's Memories

Compiled by Michelle Bigelbach, The Courier|May 22, 2024

1 Years Ago Wednesday, May 21, 2014 Two Glasgow WWII veterans took a special trip April 27-29. They were selected to go on the Big Sky Honor Flights. Glen Mahugh and Carl "Bill" Bell traveled with an escort to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials that honored their time in service. While the two only hinted at moments of emotion while seeing the 100 stars that represented 100 soldiers, each who died in war, or visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, they both said it was an amazing...

The plunge pool at the bottom of the spillway is the largest single repair project on the Missouri River system. The force of the water that poured out of the lake and down the mile-long concrete chute, 55,000 cubic f...

The banquet was resurrected by current GHS activity director, Brenner Flaten, who hosted the event. Keynote speaker was Jeff Graham from Belt, Mont. Graham teaches middle school and high school history, weight training, and K-12 P.E. He is the head coach for...

    Lih-An Yang, The Courier|May 20, 2015

"It'd be nice to be in the championship," said Sadie Sukut, one of the two senior leaders on the Glasgow softball team. "Yeah. A trophy would be sweet," said Autumn Hopkins, the other senior. The 2015 team started out as a young and inexperienced team. But over the course of the season, they have battled, rallied, set goals and repeatedly reached them. They hold an impressive 17-2 record going into state this weekend. Head coach Mark Falcon wants his squad to "finish strong". After beating Cut...

The first win came from defeating Glendive on the Red Devils' diamond, 9-6, on Tuesday, April 28. • Scotties Suffer First Conference Loss

    Lih-An Yang, The Courier|Apr 29, 2015

The Scottie softball team suffered their first conference loss to what many consider the top team in the division, the Conrad Cowgirls. The Cowgirls shut down the Scotties, 2-0, on April 25 at the Columbus Invitational Tournament. But not before the Scotties picked up three conference wins in Columbus, beating Huntley Project Lady Red Devils 10-4, Colstrip 16-8, and narrowly edging the tough Stillwater, 5-4. That brings the Scotties to a 3-1 in conference record, 9-2 overall. Scottie Tyra Johnson was the winning pitcher vs. Huntley Project and...

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jun 4, 2014

The game was a hard fought game on both sides with the winner being anyone's guess. Abby Mehling decided to leave guessing out of the equation in the top of the seventh inning. The Scottie senior belted a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh. The excitement wasn't through quite yet as Glasgow needed a big play from center fielder Abby Kolstad to seal the game on a diving cat...

  • Scotties Finish Fourth In Eastern B-C Divisionals

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|May 28, 2014

It wasn't exactly the home-field advantage Glasgow softball was hoping for. Hosting the Eastern B-C Divisional Tournament this past weekend as the No. 2 seed, Glasgow looked ready to head into the championship round with a possible rematch against No. 1 Huntley Project. Those plans were derailed however as Glasgow was eliminated from play on the second day of the tournament, losing to Conrad 4-3 in eight innings. Needing to win two more games just to make it back to the championship game, the Sc...

  • Scottie Softball On A Roll

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Apr 23, 2014

The Glasgow softball team continues to mow through their opponents as they are now 5-0 on the season. Scotties head coach Mark Falcon acknowledged the good start his team is on, but said they’re far from where he wants them to be. “We started off pretty well,” Falcon said. “We know what we need to work on. We haven’t had time to have defensive practices yet, but we need to be moving a little more on our bunting and fly balls.” Falcon said that the Scotties are hitting just fine at the plate although he would like to see his team executing m...

  • Spring Sports Future Looks Bright For Scotties

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Editor|Jun 5, 2013

It didn’t exactly go to plan. The breaks didn’t always go the Scotties’ way. And the weather didn’t play fair. Nevertheless, the Scotties still had a successful spring sports season and are set up to be even more successful in the seasons ahead. The smallest Glasgow High School class since 1930 graduated on May 26, including several highly-decorated athletes, such as Bryan Larson and Alex Page, who were named Scottie Athletes of the Year recently, joining a long line of distinguished Scottie com...

  • Errors, Key Injury Cost Scottie Softball

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 29, 2013

Nothing went the way it was supposed to for the Scottie girls. In their third-straight trip to state, everything was set up to achieve Glasgow’s ultimate goal, a state title. Instead, a rash of errors, mistakes and one big injury cost the Scottie girls two straight losses and an early exit on Friday. “When you go to the state tournament, you have to bring your A-game every game. When you don’t, that’s what happens,” said Head Coach Mark Falcon. The Scottie girls played well in their first gam...

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 22, 2013

The Scottie girls didn’t know it at the time, but their defeat of Shepherd, 10-5, on Saturday gave them the Eastern B/C Divisional Championship. With the tournament pounded by rain, the divisional championship game was cancelled, giving the Scottie girls, the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament, the title, completed the third of their four goals for the season. “We got our first three objectives out of the way. We took first in our conference, finished the regular season strong and...

  • One Game At A Time

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 15, 2013

Heading into the postseason, last year’s run to second in the state for the Scottie girls’ softball team is in their back of their mind. And yet, it isn’t. “We take it one game at a time, one inning at a time, one pitch at a time,” said junior catcher Mariah Stein. It’s a sports cliche. Everybody has heard them at every level of competition. Usually, they’re just platitudes. In this case though, it’s the mindset of the entire team. In 2012, the Scottie girls, mostly comprised of sophomores, wen...

  • Home Sweet Home

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 8, 2013

Finally playing in front of their town, friends and family, the Glasgow softball team put on a powerful display with an 18-15 win over Sidney on Tuesday. Hundreds came out to see their dominant Scottie girls take on the Lady Eagles after several previous cancellations put any chance of a home contest in doubt. So when the Scottie girls were finally able to play at Sullivan Field, they were thrilled. “They’ve been waiting for this all year,” said Head Coach Mark Falcon. “It’s good to have such...

  • Softball Wraps Up Conference

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 1, 2013

On April 18, Scottie softball had not played a single game in conference. Eight days later, they had swept their seven counterparts in the Eastern B Division and earned the top seed in the divisional tournament. They started with a four-game sweep of Colstrip, Stillwater, Huntley Project and Shepherd on April 19 and 20, and then tore through Cut Bank, Shelby and Conrad at the Conrad Invitational for the final three conference games of the season. For good measure, the Scottie girls then dispatch...
