    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Sep 28, 2016

The past week was busy for the GHS volleyball team as they traveled to Sidney Sept. 20 to take on the class A Eagles. In a very competitive four-set match, Glasgow came out on fire, stunning the Eagles with aggressive serving and a wicked-fast offense that kept their block from forming a wall strong enough to stop the Scotties. In quick fashion, Glasgow came out on top 25-14. Game two was much closer as the Eagles found their stride and pushed back, costing Glasgow the set 25-22. The Lady... Full story

  • Glasgow's City Pool is Drowning

    Parker Kulczyk, Juvenescent Jots|Aug 3, 2016

The city pool in Glasgow was built where it stands, or slouches now, 43 years ago. It was opened in June of 1974. It was expected to last around 10 years. Like many other things in Glasgow, it has long outlasted its expiration date. It is now in dilapidated, unsafe condition, and is something that the city of Glasgow as a whole and its residents should be embarrassed about. Why haven’t we built a new pool? Why are we putting pool-goers at risk of injury? What is the solution? Glasgow’s pool is the home to many different activities, even in its...

  • Planting Potholes, Counting Calcutta, and "Plain English" Decoded

James Walling, Notes from the Editor|Jun 10, 2015

Had a great idea last week. Or rather, Facebook tipped me off to a great idea. There are a lot of potholes around the place generally and someone shared a pic of a flower that had been planted in what appeared to be one of the many road gashes here in town. I loved the idea for the paper and thought I’d loop the city into my scheme by encouraging them to fill one pothole per week for an ongoing series sponsored by Glasgow Flower and Gift. I got our sponsor on board (thanks, GFG!), sent a reporter to place a daisy in a local pothole. She took a...

  • A Pool In Peril

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|May 21, 2014

It’s approaching the time of year where the sun finally comes out and the temperatures heat up and all that can mean is another joyous summer spent at the Glasgow City pool. In order to get the pool ready for the summertime crowd, it has to be drained and repairs need to be made before being opened to the public. That task is the responsibility of Jory Casterline and Roger Canen. Casterline, who runs the Recreation Department, said that the city is in need of a completely new pool, but can’t see exactly how building a new one is feasible at...

The low temperature of 1 degree above zero Friday night translated to about 29 below wind chill. A r... Full story
