There are two positions open for the Glasgow School District Board of Trustees this year. Ryan Fast’s and Chrissa Nelson’s terms are set to expire. Ryan Fast has indicated he will not seek reelection. Chrissa Nelson has filed as an incumbent and Derek Beadle has also declared his intent to run. Russell Dahl filed for the seat last week and Paul Tweten filed to run on Friday. Both are running against Dan Carr. But because of the superintendent at that time leaving and a new superintendent coming in, the board voted to table the issue. Melford Arrotta, 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023. At his request he has been cremated and will join his parents in the Grandview Cemetery in Saco, Mont. Valley County is one of the 49 counties who have chosen to not follow a directive from the administration of Gov. Greg Gianforte by scaling back their collections of a state-level school funding property tax. These 49 counties will levy 77.9 mills of school equalization tax for 2023, as opposed to the full 95 mills ordered by the Montana Department of Revenue.
