In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day is a religious holiday. In the U.S., it’s primarily a day to wear green, pinch those who are not, and very often for some, drink alcohol in excess. Unfortunately, this sometimes results in those people getting behind the wheel of a car. That’s where the fun ends and a potentially deadly situation begins. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 60 people died in drunken-driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period (6 p.m. March 16 to 5:59 a.m. March 18) in 2016, a...

Alcohol affects drivers in a way that changes their judgement, depth perception, and the vital motor skills required to drive safely. An impaired driver may think they are behaving normally, when in reality they are not, which can lead to serious and deadly consequences. A high school student does not have much driving experience, and their brain is still developing, particularly the part that affects their ability to make good decisions. A still developing brain mixed with the negative effects of alcohol make it very difficult for a teen to...

And then school was back in session. While we’re all still glowing with that summer tan, it is hard to get back into the swing of school schedules and school traffic, pedestrian and otherwise. Your Glasgow Police Department would like to remind you that these early fall mornings see a large number of young, often inexperienced travelers on our residential streets. Whether kindergarteners, trudging under the weight of a new backpack, running haphazardly into intersections, or packs of older kids, they present a precious hazard. Please keep y...

I watch as this team of highly skilled dedicated VOLUNTEERS, work together in highly dangerous situations, efficiently and selflessly. They put themselves in places you and I would never go…all with the sole purpose...
