On the evening of Monday, June 10, 2024, Peggy passed away peacefully at Valley View Home, Glasgow, Mont., after a four year battle with COPD. Peggy was 70 years old. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 1 Years Ago Wednesday, June 18, 2014 Local VFW Post 3107 member Art Widhalm was elected and sworn in as the Montana state commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at its 92nd annual convention in Great Falls on Sunday, June 15. He became active in the VFW upon his retirement and served as commander of Post 3107 in Glasgow from 2000- 09. He was district commander for three terms before moving up to the department level. The first of four Alive @ Five events is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19 by the Nemont offices. At this year’s events will be a fire truck pull competition instead of the Hot Dog eating competition. Milk River Inc. has put together a four-part series of fire truck pulls to crown a champion team. Teams will be comprised of eight team members and one Milk River Stars athlete. The Glasgow School board had a work session on May 28 to review four applicants to fill the Irle School principal position. The position had been held by Ed Sugg since the fall of 2021 however earlier in the school year, he requested a transfer to a teaching position at the Glasgow Middle School starting with the 2024-2025 school year. Our dearest friend, brother, and uncle, Stanley Frederick Soper aka Stanley Steamer aka Stan the Cement Man passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, in Malta, Mont. He was 79. 1 Years Ago Wednesday, June 4, 2014 East Side School drew a crowd of students, parents and staff at the Glasgow High School on Friday, May 30, for the 13th annual egg drop. It lasted a few hours, starting first thing in the morning for the last day of school. The Glasgow boys track team scored 37 points at the MHSA Class B State Track & Field Meet in Laurel, May 24 and 25 ,to take fifth place. The Scottie girls scored 20 points to tie for seventh place. Six Valley County high school graduates have received 2024 Jeff Jurgens Memorial Scholarships to enable their studies at colleges, universities, and trade schools. Gary F. Martin was born on June 4, 1936, to parents Francis L. Martin and Velva Mae (Major) Martin in Williston, N.D. He was the oldest of six brothers, Robert, Thomas, Dennis, Lyle, Douglas and William. The Scottie golf season came to an end in Shelby at the State Meet May 14 and 15. The Glasgow boys finished in 10th place with a team 709 score, +133.
