Tyler Vandermars of Glasgow spent an unexpected night on the southern side of Fort Peck Lake after an elk hunting trip led to his stranding during high winds and winter weather on Oct. 8. According to Vandermars, he had set out Monday to try and find an elk and stayed through to Tuesday. On Tuesday morning he found the elk, and set out on pursuit, but abandoned the effort to return home when the winds came up around 1 p.m. Vandermars said he had attempted to cross the lake then, but when he reached the mouth of the Crooked Creek Bay, he was...

The following is an essay about the first All-School Reunion held in Glasgow. I did not graduate from Glasgow High, leaving my senior year for Havre. My gracious classmates, Rhonda Ronass and Karen Koski have kept me on the contact list and I have attended several of my class reunions, always a good time, "Class of '65." At our 50th reunion, Terry Newton stopped to see ME. Surprise, because he graduated with my brother, who was the East/West Shrine football delegate in '64, Robert Dobrovolny. I...

While driving downtown throughout the past few months, drivers and pedestrians have seen a new piece of artwork go up at the corner of 4th St. S. and 1st Ave S., on the outer side of the addition to Busted Knuckle Brewery. "The area pays tribute to the many people that helped get us to...
The 50th anniversary season at the Fort Peck Summer Theatre is soon coming to an end. And what a fitting end it is. The last show at the theatre on the lake is On Golden Pond. The season ender is more than just a show for this crew, showcasing well-known faces on the stage, a young up-and-comer, and a first-time FPST director, but a combination for a perfect blend of all the theatre represents for the region. “Such a talent!” gushed veteran actor, James Rio about Ian Wright, the young local who stars as young Billy. Rio, who was on the FPS...

Dear Editor, I graduated high school with Mike & Maryann (Burns) O'Connor, the class of 1964. As we planned to gather for our 50th class reunion in May, 2014, Maryann suggested that we release balloons over Fort Peck Lake in memory of those that had passed on. She, like many of my high school classmates, had lived and attended grade school in Fort Peck, so this was a natural suggestion. This inspired me to write a poem as part of the ceremony. We had first gathered around a table at the newly...

It was hunting season 2015, the first time Justin Schaaf wanted to go hunting on Haxby Point (also known as Sage Creek) on the south side of Fort Peck Lake where the Dry Arm meets the rest of the reservoir. The only problem was he wasn't sure what was public and what was private, so after a call to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Fort Peck, he had his answer and set out to hunt a recently converted chunk of wildlife refuge accessible by hundreds of miles of dirt road or a boat ride across...
