Glasgow Mayor Becky Erickson kicked off the Dec. 17 city council meeting by swearing in one new and two returning members of the Glasgow City Council. Swearing in were returning councilmen Butch Heitman, representing Ward 2, and Rod Karst, who represents Ward 3. Newly elected to the council is Todd Young who will represent Ward 1 as of Jan. 1. Secretary of State Corey Stapleton has awarded HAVA Election Security Grants to counties throughout the state, including Valley County, to assist them in purchasing the new ExpressVote voting system. Groups trying to improve mental health and decrease substance abuse in Valley County are sponsoring a Mental Health Walk on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Valley Event Center and will end at the Civic Center.
