    Bonnie Davidson, The Courier|Nov 20, 2013

A painful but important reminder was placed at Sullivan Park this week. The National Weather Service in Glasgow worked with the Glasgow Reds baseball team to place a high water mark on the concessions stand. Valley County and the city of Glasgow will never forget a flash flood that took everyone by surprise on June 8, 2011. Tanja Fransen, a local meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said they placed the water line mark in a place where more people would see it. "The marker is for...

Giving thanks is part of the season. Sharing a meal on Thanksgiving day is a tradition for families all across the nation. • Merger Or Co-Op? That Is The Question (Part II)

    Virgil Vaupel, Thanks For Listening|Nov 20, 2013

We made an attempt at understanding the need for sports co-ops in some high schools in last week's column. The diminishing numbers of students and the loss of population in our smaller communities have made it necessary for towns to get together and discuss mergers or co-ops. Just a few of the questions people from both communities would ask are: Who pays for travel to and from practices? How will insurance coverage be obtained? How will gate receipts be divided? Where will home games be played. Are the training rules for both schools comparabl...

Dear Phillips/Valley County Resident: Last year, through a similar letter, National Wildlife Federation (NWF) heard from hundreds of residents in northeast Montana regarding concerns over a wild bison restoration. • Gallery Gifts Building: It Was A Grocery

    Nov 20, 2013

Some more on the little groceries. It is always such a pleasant surprise to get phone calls and letters on subjects and certainly want to share them at some time or another. Received a letter the other day that helped me remember a couple of other small grocers in Glasgow. Do you remember our first “warehouse grocery,” which was located in the present Gallery Gifts building? The reader remembers the various chocolate bars that were stocked near the door. Then there was Eddie's Quick Stop, right close to the railroad track crossing and pri...
