  • Dreams Never Die

    Michelle Bigelbach, The Courier|Nov 16, 2022

In 2004, a group of teenagers started a goal of creating a skatepark in order to pursue their passions in the sport. A board was created, and with the assistance of parents and other involved community members, the park was created on the Fairgrounds property. In 2007 a concrete pad had been poured and ramps were installed. As these teenagers grew up and graduated from high school, the interest to maintain and upkeep the property weaned off, with the property becoming bygones of the past. This past summer, the skatepark was closed off from...

  • Toy Caps

    Gwen Cornwell, For the Courier|Nov 16, 2022

I saw in item on Facebook the other day that featured a roll of “caps,” wondering if anyone remembered what they were. Of course, most of us would remember, as most of my generation had a cap gun at one time or another. Now to get a little personal, we have one today. It is a small little pistol looking gun. Of course, I had to order ammo for it. The rolls of caps are not what they use to be! The roll is a little narrower, and the percussion dots much closer together. This tells me that I may still be able to purchase these fun toys if I wer...

  • Stories From The Strong

    Nov 16, 2022

The Valley CARE Coalition proudly presents stories from Valley County residents who have struggled, continue to struggle, or have found peace surrounding mental health, substance use disorders, or behavioral health. Battling this is a symbol of strength and courage and should be highlighted as such. My dad is an alcoholic and relapsed after 20-ish years when I was 16. I was in denial for about a year before it just wasn’t a possibility anymore. It was painful but keeping myself busy and coming home mostly to sleep helped keep it at the back o...

Vandall is a self taught artist in drawing and acrylic paintings working not from reference photos, but from visions in his memory bank. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicts a serious spread of flu this year and is already reporting an early spike in cases in several states. When seasonal illnesses increase, the number of healthy donors tends to decrease, leaving the Red Cross blood supply vulnerable to a potential shortage over the holidays. Paired with busy holiday schedules, seasonal... Full story

Connected homes, smart variations of devices we’ve used for years and the ever lower barriers to entry when it comes to smartphones and tablets. Even this very newspaper article is available in a digital manner! One area which has always had a solid relationship with technology is art, with one influencing the other throughout the course of history. What happens when the lines b...

  • Early Winter

    Mary Honrud, For the Courier|Nov 16, 2022

I'm afraid winter is here to stay. Our Opheim snow-birds have or are preparing to fly the coop. The last of the couples have just deserted us for warmer climes. I can't blame them. I'm starting to dream of our annual Christmas trip to sunny Florida. I won't miss this brutal cold or that blanket of snow. The two days of ice-fog up here did make everything sparkly and pretty. But sparkly and pretty isn't at all warm. I'm sure the deer that are dining on my lilacs (the leaves didn't get a chance to...
