    Michelle Bigelbach, The Courier|Aug 19, 2020

Field data collection for the 2020 Census is expected to end Sept. 30, a full month earlier than the original extension, which was established due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Census Bureau Director Steven Dillingham, the shift in deadline is to speed up the completion of the data collection and apportionment counts while protecting the health and safety of the public and the Bureau’s workforce. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States suspended all field operations from March to early May as a way to slow the spread o...

  • Valley View/FMDH Address Concerns Surrounding Employee Safety

    A.J. Etherington, The Courier|Aug 19, 2020

It has been a long five months for Valley View Home. Since the governor’s directives were issued in March and the Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services issued guidance for long-term care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, a toll has been taken on the care providers, staff, residents and loved ones associated with the facility. As a direct result of the pandemic and the restrictions meant to keep the populations most vulnerable to the coronavirus safe, many of the residents have not directly interacted or had physical contact with their l...

  • Glasgow School District Reopening

    Aug 19, 2020

Dear Editor, I was encouraged to read, in the Aug. 12, 2020, edition of the Glasgow Courier, that Glasgow School District's Superintendent Sundby wanted to assure parents "that while the school will have tentative plans in place, any plan that is implemented will be done in conjunction with recommendations from the Valley County Health Department and Dr. Anne Millard." Unfortunately, based upon my recent conversations with Valley County Health Department Director Lynn Miller, I understand that...

  • Railroad Safety

    Aug 19, 2020

Dear Editor, There is no better place to be during the summer than Montana. Wide open spaces and long August days have been treasured more than ever this year. As summer comes to a close, though, we shift our focus to harvest and sending the kids back to school. It's a good time to remind friends and family about safety near railroad tracks. Remember that if you see railroad tracks, there will be a train! As you approach railroad tracks, remember that trains are big, heavy, fast, and extremely...

The vote, which occurred on Aug. 12, is the final step in presenting the question to the public. The ballot language will read: Do you support allowing property owners to maintain six (6) domestic chicken hens, within the incorporated Glasgow City limits, subject to the regulation by the Official Code of the C...

    For the Courier|Aug 19, 2020

In the wake of growing COVID-19 cases in Valley County and increases in community spread, the Glasgow Downtown Association (GDA) has opted to cancel the “Alive at Five” event scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19. Discussions with county health officials helped to lead to the decision. Worries of complicating the reopening of local schools also weighed heavily on committee members. It’s the hope of GDA that the Sept. 16 event will still be possible. “Hump Day,” a promotion of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, will still be running t...

  • Raspberry Recipes

    Mary Honrud, For the Courier|Aug 19, 2020

This week's column will be almost all recipes. I'm using up my remaining raspberries without just freezing them 'as is'. Save these winners for next summer. They'll be worth it, I promise! I'm in between Whole Life Challenge sessions (the next one starts the day after Dennis' birthday, yay), so I'm back to using regular flour and real sugar for the next six weeks. No need to look for almond flour or fake sugars. First up, I made these bars, but I'll warn you right away, where it says "ungreased...
