The Valley Event Center was filled with ice skaters of all ages to ring in 2025 on Dec. 31. The community skate party, which thanks to Wagging Wheel Pet Boarding the first 100 skaters received free admission, allowed individuals of all skating levels to hit the ice, skate with friends and enjoy a mix of dance and skating music. A total of 99 individuals made it home safe and allowed others to get home safely on New Year’s Eve as a result of transportation services provided by individuals from the Valley County Search & Rescue, Fire Department, and local wrecker services. These individuals volunteered their time and their vehicles on the holiday, with support from the DUI task force. The Valley County Commissioners met in regular session on Dec. 31, to discuss whether or not to opt into the Montana Community Reinvestment Plan through House Bill 819. This plan allocates $56 million statewide to provide homebuyer assistance to low-and middle-income residents with Valley County being eligible to receive $310,000. Together with Attorney General Austin Knudsen, Governor Greg Gianforte recognized Human Trafficking Prevention Month on Jan. 2, by reminding Montanans to learn the signs of human trafficking and report it if they see it to help stop the heinous crime. Barbara Ellen (Thiel) Johnson, age 78, went to be with her wonderful lord and savior on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. Barbara passed away at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, Glasgow, Mont., with family by her side. Barbara was born in Sidney, Mont. to Raymond and Lucy Thiel on Nov. 22, 1946. Glasgow-area Boy Scout Troop 861 and Fish, Wildlife & Parks fisheries staff are once again collaborating to improve fish habitat at the Fort Peck Trout Pond.
