Glasgow AAU wrestling is back on the mat for another year with coach Jory Casterline leading some feisty newcomers and veteran youngsters who look learn and sharpen their wrestling skills in a town rich with wrestling tradition. Glasgow wrestling hosted a mixer last Thursday with Malta and Wolf Point. The Scotties continue to see success on the mat from each of their wrestlers. Kasey Seyfert went 1-0 in the mixer with a pin. Cody King continued his torrid pace on the season adding three more victories to his record by way of pins. Tony Kaiser and Kevin Frigon both add two wins each. Glasgow wrestling enjoyed a nice winter break, but the break is just about over as the team heads back into the gym to prepare for its match against Malta on Jan. 2. Scotties head coach Trevor Newman says that the season so far has included a lot of learning and getting in proper shape. Business picked up as usual after Christmas as his squad returned to the practice court on Thursday to prepare for the second half of the season that starts on the road against Glendive. The Glasgow high school team and U19 Ice Dawgs look to start off the new year exactly where they left off in 2013. The U19 squad had two games in Bismarck on Dec. 28-29, but at the time of publication, results were not available. The U19 squad is led by the scoring threats of Carley Wesley, Alex Simensen and MaKenzie Wesen. In the last four games, Simensen has 7 goals and an assist. The U19 Ice Dawgs are on a roll. Glasgow secured its third consecutive win Sunday as they beat Watford City 1-0 at the Valley Event Center. Glasgow fourth grader Rance Rhoads comes across as shy when you first meet him. The shyness quickly fades away when you ask him about his recent trip to Denver as Rhoads finished third in the 8-9 year old age group in the annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition put on by the NFL. This weekend, Glasgow High School will host it’s first Class ‘C’ Showcase Basketball Tournament. The tournament will feature boys and girls basketball from Glasgow and surrounding communities as well as schools from outside the area such.
