The Glasgow High School Student Council (STUCO) members held their 24th annual Remembrance Tree program at the Pioneer Museum on Dec. 4. STUCO members, led by President Lane Thompson, welcomed those in attendance, which included Deacon Ed Malone, from St. Raphael's Catholic Church, who gave the evening's address. Glasgow High School junior Harley Edwards was one of four students throughout the state who was recognized for his essay on leadership development during the state’s annual Jobs for Montana’s Graduates (JMG) Lead Montana Conference in Helena on Oct. 28. The 18th Annual Festival of Trees was held on Nov. 18 and 19 at the Glasgow Elks Lodge. A total of 48 trees, wreaths and holiday décor, designed by a wide range of community members, were available for the Friday night auction with all proceeds going towards the Valley County H.O.P.E. At the beginning of the school year, Opheim School students and fellow staff welcomed four new staff members into their community. Matt Simley is teaching second/third grade class as well as the elementary P.E. classes. Old Man Winter made an appearance over the past week, which reminded all of us what cold and snow is after a mild end to fall-like weather. A new record low was broken for Glasgow Airport on Nov. 10, when it hit -15 degrees Fahrenheit. This broke the previous record low of -13 degrees Fahrenheit that was set in 1911. In the Nov. 8, 2022 Mid-Term Election, a total of 3,278 registered voters made their voices heard, of the total 4,928 registered voters in the county, making this election a 67 percent voter turnout. When looking at the Valley County precinct breakdown, of the 1,062 total voters in Precinct 31, 689 people cast their ballots for a 65 percent turnout, Precinct 33 had a 68 percent turnout, 1,357 votes cast compared to the total registered voters of 2,000, and Precinct 34 has 1,232 votes cost of the total 1,866 voters with a 66 percent turnout....
In 2004, a group of teenagers started a goal of creating a skatepark in order to pursue their passions in the sport. A board was created, and with the assistance of parents and other involved community members, the park was created on the Fairgrounds property. In 2007 a concrete pad had been poured and ramps were installed. Art Widhalm (pictured) was one of a number of volunteers at the downtown intersections for VFW Buddy Poppy Day on Nov. 4. The funds raised during the day event are put towards the Veterans Relief Fund, which is used to help area veterans. The Valley County Commissioners have bene holding weekly Discussion and Decision meetings to gain public input on how to spend the latest American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation funding. Valley County received the latest ARPA allocation of $1,805,269 from the U.S. Treasury, through the Local Assistance (Public Lands Counties) fund in October and a matching amount is scheduled to be allocated again in 2023. The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the Glasgow Recreation Department's seventh annual Monster Dash at Sullivan Trail on Oct. 30. The Northeast Montana Veterans Memorial in Fort Peck saw some additions on Oct. 20 as the crew from MT Granite, Great Falls, installed Gold Star casualty marble slabs on the inside of the Memorial's pillars. These casualties are from World War I to date and highlight 494 names from the nine northeastern Montana counties represented in the Memorial. Assembly of God Pastor Tom Fauth was sworn in as the new Valley County Chaplain by Sheriff Tom Boyer on Sept. 29, in the Valley County Courthouse basement courtroom.
