  • Scotties Defeat Malta in Final Regular Season Clash

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Oct 28, 2015

SCOTTIE PRIDE IS ALIVE AND ROARING! Seattle's twelfth man has nothing on the Glasgow student section! The constant, thundering racket of the biggest student crowd in years definitely carried an already very enthusiastic GHS volleyball team through good times and lean times, ending in a solid victory over Malta, 25-21, 16-25, 25-16, 25-19. Scrappy and determined defensive efforts prevailed in the face of a much taller M'ette team, while shot selection and offensive intensity escalated for the...

  • Scotties Inch Towards Volleyball 2B Title

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Oct 21, 2015

The Scottie volleyball season is rapidly coming to a close. Another conference victory, this one over a very scrappy and determined Harlem team, put the Scotties closer to finishing on top of the 2B District. But there are two more important matches before tourney time. GHS travels to Sidney for a re-match against the Class A Eagles. Overpowering offense kept the Scotties out of the game two weeks ago, but they are aiming for a different outcome this time. Hopefully the extra hours of defensive...

  • Scotties Stun Class A Glendive in Five

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Oct 14, 2015

Talk about a comeback! In unfamiliar territory, against a strong Class A Glendive team, the GHS girls started out in spurts - sometimes good, sometimes not so good, dropping the first two sets. Game three showed the first real spark of their desire to compete and they played what can only be described as 'recovery' volleyball before their confidence level began to inch up and they won that critical set. Game four was a solid win for the Scotties and game five was the icing on the cake, with...

  • Volleyball Rebounds from Sidney Loss, Spikes Wolf Point on Homecoming Saturday

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Oct 7, 2015

Homecoming weekend produced a lot of action and some mixed results for the GHS volleyball team. On Oct. 1 they hosted class A Sidney, a school that hasn't been on the schedule in years past. As expected, Sidney proved to be a very well-trained, well-rounded team. The volleys were action-packed and both teams experienced swings in momentum, but it was the Eagles who ultimately brought more aggressive offense and blocking to the floor that night, taking the Scotties in three sets 20-25, 23-25,...

  • Scotties Persevere at Dickinson Invitational

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Sep 30, 2015

It was a weekend full of experiences and opportunities for the GHS volleyball team and while it doesn't seem all that successful on paper, the girls learned some valuable team lessons and also earned some team pride. They learned to overcome adversity and still give teams a run for their money (they lost in three to both Kindred and Baker during pool play) and on the flip side, pulled out some amazing feats against Bismarck Century, the equivalent of a Montana AA team. Imagine 5'5 throwing...

  • Scotties Leap to Top of Class 2-B Standings

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Sep 23, 2015

Chalk up two more victories for the Scottie volleyball team. After facing conference foes Poplar and Malta last week. Those matches concluded the first round of conference play and the Scotties are currently on top of the 2-B District. All teams play each other one more time before the District tournament but seeding in that tournament is important so each match is important. At home on Thursday the Scotties worked hard for a three-game victory over Poplar, going 25-18, 25-18, 25-12. Tenacious...

  • Scottie Volleyball Rips Through Conference Foes

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Sep 16, 2015

Winning comes more easily some days than others, as the Scottie volleyball team found out last weekend. In game one against Glendive on Sept. 10, the team came out on fire and, with the backing of a raucous student section led by the GHS cheerleaders, cruised to a 25-13 win. Serving was tough, offense was varied, and good defense created even more momentum. In games two through four the Scotties flattened out and passing became an issue, which spiraled into a lack of offense which Glendive...

  • Volleyball Battles, Falls in Choteau

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Sep 2, 2015

In a nutshell, the GHS volleyball team had a fantastic tournament over in Choteau this past weekend. This tournament is a great opener because each team is guaranteed 12 matches in two days, often against highly competitive western teams who are perennial state favorites. Outsized by far, the Scotties showed no fear and no sign of being the underdog. It was a total team effort - what the front row couldn't stop was dug up by the back row. Savvy setting and clever shot selection also helped seal...

  • We Were Never Short On Heart

Lori Dailey, GHS Head Volleyball Coach|Nov 13, 2013

The divisional tournament is over, as is the Scottie Volleyball season. We fell to two great teams, Fairfield and Choteau, both of whom advanced to State. Although we fell, we can proudly say we didn’t fall apart. We never stopped trying. We forced them to earn every point. We gained their respect as individuals and as a team. In the words of Coach Ann Funk (Choteau), “We are champions because we play from the heart. We are winners because of our integrity, respect and sportsmanship.” My least favorite chore of coaching is entering the locke...
