News of the recent termination of Jon Kolstad's contract as Glasgow High School's head girls basketball coach left unanswered questions. Efforts by interested parties to clarify the termination with school board trustees were initially unsuccessful. Some answers eventually came to light with a letter sent to GHS from the Montana High School Association (MHSA) on April 27, 2016. The Glasgow School Board held both their organizational meeting and their regular meeting May 11 at the central office, with 13 people in attendance. Another spring sport fell victim to the weather when the Eastern B/C softball tournament was cut short on Saturday. The Scottie girls were playing their fifth game of the tournament against Columbus when a spring storm hit with wind, rain and hail. Glasgow's lady golfers were in Shepherd to compete in the State B golf meet on May 17 and 18. With 33 schools competing, the Scotties had some work to do. Perseverance paid off for the Glasgow golfers at their divisional meet in Shelby. With likely the worst weather possible descending on them, the girls earned their third-place trophy and punched their ticket to the state meet next week. Cut Bank The Scottie girls faced Cut Bank in their first game on May 7 in Havre. Making short work of it, Glasgow defeated the Wolves in five innings. Top Ten The Top Ten track meet was held in Glasgow May 3. Meant to highlight the top ten athletes in each event, the meet produced some inspiring performances. Although the athletes participating were serious about the competition, the evening was fairly relaxed, the competition was friendly, and sportsmanship was prevalent. Glasgow's varsity track and field team got a preview of the divisional meet this weekend when they competed in Great Falls at the Fairfield-Belt Invitational. It was an opportunity to become familiar with the facility and to compete against a different set of athletes. Mary Strand appeared in District Court before Judge John McKeon to enter guilty pleas for five separate felony counts, including four counts of theft of property by embezzlement and one count of money laundering. Strand was charged for the offenses when it was discovered she stole more than $80,000 from her employer, Fort Peck Fine Arts Council (FPFAC). Glasgow graduate Rachael Zeiger has taken another step in her collegiate athletic career, signing on to compete at the University of South Dakota. Zeiger will be primarily running middle-distance events in track and field, but will also be competing in cross country for the Coyotes.
