  • Thunder Competes in Harlem, Earns Fifth

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jun 8, 2016

With zero pool practice time and few competitors for the weekend, the Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder Swim Team still managed a solid performance at the Harlem Invitational swim meet this past weekend, placing fifth overall out of 15 teams. Harlem's two-day meet is typically low-key and is a good way to start the season, allowing new swimmers to experience a meet without an overwhelming number of competitors or commotion. Because they did not have a meet in their federation, a number of teams from the... Full story

  • Scottie Softball Fourth in the State

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jun 1, 2016

Despite their best efforts, the Scottie softball team was unable to bring home hardware from the state tournament in Kalispell. Bracketing, contentious calls, and foul weather may have been contributing factors in the disappointing results. Glasgow faced Florence in their first game on Thursday. During warm-ups just prior to the game, a lightning strike initiated a mandatory waiting period before play could begin. Then, following the first few innings, the sky opened up with a heavy spring...

  • Track Season Comes to an End for Scotties

    Georgie Kulczyk, For The Courier|Jun 1, 2016

GEORGIE KULCZYK THE COURIER The atmosphere at the State B Track and Field Meet was remarkable. There were all the usual distractions and performances, but they were more pronounced. The starter's gun seemed to crack a little louder - even more so when it popped off twice, signaling a false start. The aroma of menthol was prevalent and athletic tape was in abundance. Tears flowed more freely and celebrations were less inhibited. The state meet also had more defined rules that were strictly...

News of the recent termination of Jon Kolstad's contract as Glasgow High School's head girls basketball coach left unanswered questions. Efforts by interested parties to clarify the termination with school board trustees were initially unsuccessful. Some answers eventually came to light with a letter sent to GHS from the Montana High School Association (MHSA) on April 27, 2016. • Scotties Give Divisional Meet the Old One-Two

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|May 25, 2016

The show must go on. Despite a day-long rain and an hour-and-a-half weather intermission, the Northern B Divisional Track Meet slowly, but surely, moved forward and the participants forged ahead. Early Saturday afternoon, everything came to a screeching halt with a flash of lightning, a crack of thunder and a torrent of rain. Spectators and competitors quickly made their way to safety indoors or took refuge in nearby school cruisers. Facing at least a 30-minute wait before the meet could...

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|May 25, 2016

It was an opportunity to become familiar with the facility and to compete against a different set of athletes.
