  • Thunder Lands in "B" Division for State Meet

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jul 27, 2016

The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team finished their eighth weekend of competition July 23 and 24 in Malta, where the divisional swim meet was held. With 370 swimmers from ten veteran teams, the competition was tough. Swimmers must place in the top 12 of their events just to qualify for state competition. That's not an easy task, and not all swimmers make it past divisionals. The Thunder was represented by just more than half of their rostered team, with 32 swimmers competing at the two-day meet. Of tho...

The first game for the Reds was held Thursday afternoon, July 21, with Glasgow facing the Sidney Patriots on the diamond. Sidney claimed the lead in the second inning, scoring four runs on a two-run error. • Vets Face Monumental Task, Provide Invaluable Service

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jul 20, 2016

The staff of Planned Pethood Plus came a long way for a good cause. With less than half of their usual team of veterinarians and techs on hand, they performed an enormous number of spay/neuter surgeries during the recent clinic offered at the Valley Event Center. The clinic was held over two days, July 15 and 16, and was coordinated and ran wholly by volunteers. The number of procedures performed this year was down from last year due to the small number of staff who were able to make the trip. As a matter of fact, a number of appointments had... Full story

The Sidney Tiger Sharks, with their full roster, placed first with more than 1,200 points – three times more than Glasgow's 428.5 points. Damian Cable, an intermediate swimmer for the Thunder, had an impressive weekend. Cable placed in the top six of each of his events and cut more...

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jul 20, 2016

  • Thunder Competes in Glendive

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jul 13, 2016

The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder had a small group of swimmers representing the team in Glendive the weekend of July 9 and 10. Temperatures reached 93 degrees on Saturday, which always has the potential to sap energy from the competitors, as well as potentially causing heat stroke or dehydration. Additionally, a storm was predicted for the afternoon on Sunday, so meet organizers made some changes to the event schedule to prepare for possible delays or a meet cancellation. With just 18 swimmers making...

The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team welcomed 280 swimmers over the Fourth-of-July weekend for their annual invitational meet. Events started the morning of July 2 at 10 a.m. after Glasgow resident Hannah Mickelson sang the national anthem for the crowd. Most of the races held on the first day of a meet are preliminary, so it's not unusual to have several heats for a single event. With 11 teams competing, it made for a busy day, but with parents tackling their duties head on and Auzzy's Cook Shack...

Once again, the weather was a major problem with several lightning delays bringing the meet to a halt on Saturday. A typical swim-meet day ends mid-afternoon, but on Saturday the event was still going strong into the evening and didn't conclude until...

  • My Heart Hurts

    Georgie Kulczyk, Soapbox Soliloquy|Jun 22, 2016

It’s been nearly two years since I left Valley View Home. Although I initially resigned my position, I was eventually terminated. Either way, I didn’t leave willingly. I thought I had left all of the hurt and hard feelings behind. However, recent events have dredged those feelings back up – and more. My heart hurts, I’m angry, and I’m worried. My heart hurts because in the past two years, many people that I respect and consider friends have been terminated or pushed to resign from positions that they had literally dedicated their lives to....
