The 2018 Ranch Rodeo was held at the Valley County Fairgrounds July 28. The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team took 32 swimmers to the divisional swim meet in Chinook July 28 and 29. Head coach Nicole Arnold characterized the weekend as "spectacular" and noted that 27 personal best times were achieved at the meet. Despite boat malfunctions, lost tackle, inclement weather, etc. there will always be a winner of the Governor's Cup Walleye Tournament. This year, the tourney was held July 13 and 14, and the big prize went to Jason Eggebrecht of Fort Peck and his fishing partner out of Billings, Drew Alpers. A handful of runners from Glasgow traveled to Missoula to participate in the Missoula Marathon July 13 – 15. Some chose to do the half-marathon, while others jumped in with both feet and ran the full marathon, which is a Boston Marathon qualifier. The Reds didn't lose a single game on their way to winning the championship in the First National Tournament held in Williston July 6-8. It was their second consecutive championship at the tournament. On Friday, Glasgow played Watford City and got the 4-2 win. The 51st Annual John Hahn Memorial Softball Tournament, held at John Hahn Field in Fort Peck, wrapped up July 8, with The Mill emerging as champions. The team from the Sidney and Billings areas defeated Fort Peck Marina 29-3 in the chipper, which earned them a $1,000 cash prize. The same team won the tourney in 2017, competing as the Yank-Deez. The Glasgow Reds hosted Malta at Bill Connors Field in an abbreviated double header on June 26. The pair of games were over in less than three hours, with the Reds defeating Malta in both contests, 10-1 and 4-0. The Glasgow Reds were on the road to Billings to take on the Cardinals and the Blue Jays in back-to-back double headers. I attended three separate events in Fort Peck this weekend. There’s nothing special about that. What was noticeably special about it, is they were all heavily staffed by volunteers and funded by generous sponsors and organizations. I’m not good at volunteering. The 8th Annual Aaron Chatten Memorial Softball Tournament was held June 15-17 in Fort Peck, with 11 teams competing for the top prize. The Scottie track season ended with a mixture of disappointments and triumphs. The 2018 State Class B track meet was held in Laurel May 25 and 26, and Glasgow was represented by nearly 30 athletes. Conditions were less than favorable for the competitors with scorching hot sun beating down for most of the weekend.
