    Montana Stockgrowers Foundation (MSF) is offering one $5,000 scholarship and two $2,500 scholarships for their annual Educational Heritage Scholarship. Each year, MSF awards college students, who are seeking a career beneficial to ranching, with a scholarship.   • Investigation Underway For Death At VC Detention Center

    During the late-night hours of March 13, two adult men were detained by deputies from the Valley County Sheriff’s Office for suspected drug activity. An investigation ensued and eventually both men were transported to the Valley County Detention Center. There, one of the men began exhibiting symptoms of a drug overdose. Deputies administered two doses of Narcan/Naloxone to him while EMS was dispatched. An ambulance arrived and transported him to Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.     Sheriff Tom Boyer announced via press release that Darryl Big Leggins, age 55, of Hays Montana died while in custody Feb. 10 at the Valley County Detention Center. Big Leggins was being held under contract for the Montana Department of Corrections. Sheriff Boyer requested the Phillips County Coroner and the Montana Department of Justice to investigate the death.     Volunteer road cyclists are taking to roads across Montana in a new scientific effort that can help save wildlife and human lives by reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions.     Richard Winderl was a lifelong resident of Valley County and he passed away June 28, 2019. He is still looking out for the community he cared about by providing a donation to the FMDH Scholarship Fund. The ninth child of 10 sons, his family farmed south of Richland, Mont.
