The Glasgow Scottie Cross Country teams traveled to Poplar on Sept. 21 to compete at the Poplar Invitational Meet. The Scotties claimed both of the second place team slots with top performances out of Iris McKean, claiming third for the girls, and Wilson Overby, claiming fifth for the boys. The Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has decked the streets in Scottie Pride this year. The idea to order 100 flags from the Glasgow Student Council came up over the summer with the Chamber Board from member and Scottie Athletic Director Brenner Flaten. The Glasgow City Council voted in a split decision to raise tax revenues for the city by a total of roughly $49,000. The move is likely to raise taxes next year for most Glasgow residents and businesses. The vote followed a tense exchange between Councilman Stan Ozark and Mayor Becky Erickson as they debated the principle of raising taxes just because they have the ability to do so. Nemont Manor’s new ownership, Affiliated Developers Inc., has told the Courier that they are struggling to acquire the necessary Housing and Urban Development (HUD) loans and grants required to complete their planned $4.6 million renovation of the building. The announcement comes just over a year after the property was sold to Affiliated Developers in July 2018. The Eastern Montana Community Mental Health Center (EMCMHC), based in Miles City, has announced they are partnering with Rimrock in Billings, to provide enhanced addiction and mental illness treatment in eastern Montana. Currently, EMCMHC provides services in 17 eastern Montana communities, including Glasgow. The Scottie boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Billings for the Billings Invitational on Aug. 30. The meet marked the opening competition for the Scotties with the boys placing 16 overall for varsity and 14 overall for JV. The girls varsity ran only three competitors and did not receive a team score, but the JV girls came in at 13 overall. On the boys side the Invitational welcomed 29 teams bringing 153 varsity runners and 267 JV runners. For the girls there were 27 teams bringing 128 varsity competitors and 220 JV runners. Cross...
A single vehicle rollover occurred on the evening of Monday, Aug. 19, in northern Valley County. According to reports from the Montana Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling on Highway 24 near mile marker 12 when they drifted off the road. Sgt. Jeff Kent, the supervisor for the Montana Highway Patrol in Wolf Point, said the driver then over corrected four separate times before the vehicle overturned and rolled multiple times. Last year the Scottie Wrestling Camp set a new record, they reached a total attendance of nearly 120 wrestlers. This year from Aug. 5 through 7, 2019, the camp drew numbers in that same arena coming in at 119 wrestlers in attendance. The success of the camp is its draw for elite level wrestlers.
